Back when I first started writing I saved my ms in one file.  Mainly because it never occured to me to do it any other way.  Then one day I was posting on some writer's loop and one of the pubbed authors commented on this.  She apparently thought this was a bad idea because if something happens to that file you could lose your entire ms. 

Ah, the joys of writing.  It's something so many of us have dreamed about and the road to publication can be long and riddled with disappointment, heart breaking lows and occasionally we get a pat on the back for our efforts. No matter what you've achieved in your writing career, published or unpublished, I'm sure you've discovered a few dos and don'ts along the way. 

As I'm writing and editing I often find myself stuck.  I don't know what should happen next or I can't find the words to say what I want to say.  I realize this is what writing is all about, and that doesn't overly concern me, but what does concern me is the process I use to get past this. 

Years ago, back when I was young and naive, I used to think that doing office work would be, well, maybe not exciting, but at the very least mildly challenging.  But after several years of working temporary positions for various companies I've realized the biggest challenge of the average office worker is to NOT die of boredom. 

John had only been at the party for ten minutes, and already he was bored. He was there as a favor to his widowed aunt, who was no doubt trying to play matchmaker. When would she learn that none of these society women could interest him?
