CF Forester

 In this the 9th of series about  Commodore Horatio Hornblower  CS Forester makes the historic times real to readers.

 Captain Heratio Hornblower  is on a 22 gun sloop Atropos in Turkish waters in the  Mediterranean at Passage Island he uses caution and execution that is spirited. He has to use skill to fight a much larger Spanish Frigate.

  Hornblower is now 27 years old, and distinguished as a daring and very resourceful officer. His 3 masted Hotspur is on reconnaissance missions during the war. Heavy Gail winds and battles keep the crews awake. Often at sea 6 months but crews are not allowed ashore when        re supplying as they may never return to the ship as many of the crew were conscripted. Water was putrid.

In book two Lieutenant Hornblower has to engage in bloody hand to hand combat with the Spanish Navy during the Napoleonic Wars,he  has to take command in the Mona Passage. Very realistic encounters aboard the ship.
