This is the second book in the trilogy and continues the murder investigation started and unsolved in the first book. It stars Sloan McKinney, who returns to Justice to help solve the murder of Lou Ann and Sarah Wallace, and Sheriff Carley Matheson of Justice who was wounded in the pursuit of the murderer.

This book is one of the Five-Alarm Babies series.  I have a couple of the others, but I think I missed some along the way.  I'll have to go looking for them, as Delores Fossen did an excellent job of this subject. 

Tough-as-nails cop Jason Lawrence hadn't planned on parenthood. But after his brother's death, he'd raised his baby niece, Megan, becoming her father in every way that mattered. And there was no way that he was giving her up — even to the biological mother Megan had never known.

Everyone it seems wants custody of this child.  Several, enough so to commit murder.  Delores Fossen created a story in The Horseman's Son that crackles with danger and has a lot of twists.  Very good read!

What a great addition to the series.

    The police woman, Collena Drake, who is sorting out the illegal adoptions at the Brighton Birthing Center has finally found her own baby. He's been adopted by a single, wealthy man, Dylan Greer.

    She goes to the Greer ranch hoping just to see the little boy, 16 month old Adam. Her son who had been stolen at birth.

The other day someone I know said she hated secret baby books because in her opinion they made the mothers look like villains. Well, I think I'll be recommending she read Newborn Conspiracy because wow, did Fossen take the secret baby book on a new ride!!!!

My Thoughts: I have enjoyed the entire series and this book was no exception. It was an excellent conclusion. I was glad Collena's story ended as it did. And wasn't her man--Dylan Greer--worth the wait?
