Bayou Midnight by Emilie Richards, Men Made in America (Louisiana) (Originally SIM, May 1987)
Detective Sergeant Sam Long is investigating a case. The latest crime has been a fire which looks like arson. The building was believed to be empty but what the arsonist didn't know was that one of the executives had a fight with his wife and was sleeping in his office. So the arson case was now a murder case. There was also a 7 year old girl asleep on one of the sofas (she was the cleaning lady's daughter) When she heard the explosion she woke up screaming and it was very smoky. The next thing she remembers is sitting outside on a sidewalk. Sam figures the arsonist carried her out but she suppressed the memory. He goes to see psychologist Antoinette Deveraux about hypnotising the child, even though he is against the idea it may be his only lead in the case.
