Ilona Andrews, Magic Bites: dark urban fantasy, darker than I'd expected. Liked the Atlanta setting and the complex worldbuilding. I've heard the second one is even better!

Magic Burns is book 2 in the Kate Daniels series, and it is possibly even better than the first book (Magic Bites). I think you could read this without the previous book but it's got more impact if you read them in order. Especially the ending. "As you wish"?! TALK about a cliffhanger...I want book 3 now.

This week I was very fortunate to receive an ARC of Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews. Fist off because I love the world that Ilona and Gordon have built and second because the characters are engaging and well drawn.

OH MY GOSH! Awesome and more. This alternate universe Atlanta just got better. If you haven't read Magic Bites you really need to find a copy so you can get started on this series. I've been waiting for this one since last year. Full of magical creatures, shape shifters, witches, druids, and environmental flares.
