Book blurb: " After surviving a horrific attack by masked gunmen, Katherine Lawrence awakens in the hospital-with an unfamiliar face staring back at her in the mirror. Katharine may not recognize her appearance, but she does know that she's the twenty-nine-year-old special assistant to the deputy director of operations for the CIA, and that she can trust no one - not even the handsome doctor at her bedside, Dan Howard. But when Katharine's instincts tell her to run for her life, Dan becomes her newfound protector. And Kathatrine has no one else to turn to when they're drawn into a shadowy world of conspiracy, where nothing and no one are what they seem." NFM

I got this book on clearance at the bookstore a few weeks ago. And it took me awhile to listen to it as I listened in the car while driving to and from work mainly.

Now this is what I expect from a Karen Robards book!  Non-stop action, great characters, and spicy scenes.  A backstory that affects the character to this day but doesn't overshadow the present plot.  A good read.

I usually love Karen Robards, but this is a book I coudn't finish.  I got tired of the italics and the heroine's thoughts on every page.  I don't have to know every exact thought.  Show me how she's feeling, but please don't use three pages to do it.  Get to the point already.

I love Karen Robards as a general rule and Hunter's Moon is a yearly reread for me.  Robards is typically an auto buy for me but I totally thought this book was lame.  I can't give away why that well without giving too much away but the characters, Katharine and Dan, are hiding some things.  And the reality of those things let me down.  I would have reacted better if her motivation, especially

#101 – Obsession by Karen Robards (Signet 2007, PB release May 2008)

book cover"Katharine Lawrence has no idea what hit her. The attack came out of nowhere. Only hours earlier she had been enjoying a girls-only weekend with an old college friend. Now she finds herself lying bound and gagged on her kitchen floor, staring with terrified eyes at her friend Lisa while two masked gunmen search her house for - what? She doesn't know. She only knows that, unless they can escape, whatever it is could end up getting both her and Lisa killed.

But Katharine's nightmare is only just beginning. When she awakens in a Washington hospital, her nose crushed, her body battered, her brain tells her things aren't right - and it's not the attack that's disorienting her. She doesn't recognize herself when she looks in the mirror: her slim body, her manicured hands, her blond bob. And the smiling, handsome doctor at her bedside - Dr. Dan Howard - is familiar, but in a totally unfamiliar way. Perhaps the trauma of the attempt on her life has given her some kind of weird amnesia. She's twenty-nine, the special assistant to the head of the CIA, and she's lucky to be alive. She also knows she can trust no one.

Acting on instinct, Katharine runs for her life, with Dan, her new-found protector, at her side. By turns grateful and unnerved by his presence, and unable to shake a feeling of profound dread, she allows Dan to spirit her to a secluded safe house. Instead of finding a haven, they stumble into a tangled web of government conspiracy, leaving Katharine confused, frightened, and desperate to uncover the truth. As the pair is drawn further into this shadowy world where almost nothing is as it seems, as fear gives way to a firestorm of attraction, the cat-and-mouse game grows more deadly, and soon both of their lives are at stake."

I really enjoyed this one - definitely kept me guessing.

I am a big fan of Karen Robards, and I always read her new books (since i have read all her old books)  At times, I do miss her historical romances, now that she mainly writes romantic suspense.    From the back cover:
