Sandler dumps the reader right into an emotionally charged scene. She grabs the reader’s attention and she never lets up on the strong emotion she writes into every scene. This book goes beyond three-dimensional characters—it has the added fourth dimension of high emotional impact. A few other gifted authors have this same ability to transcend the flat page of a book. These will be the books that end up in my keeper pile. These authors become my autobuys. Sandler will join this group. Thumbs up!

Logan feels guilty that he couldn't make his late wife happy so he tries to fulfil her wishes for a baby by asking her best friend to be the surrogate carrier. Logan and Shani have never got on, she's always blamed him for Arianna's unhappiness, but she accepts and he insists she move into his guest cottage and as she gets to know him better, they fall in love though Logan stays in denial.

This story is very intrigueing about two lost souls who found each other in the mountains, both in need of help with the soul problems they carry too deep. The female cannot remember who she is and is afraid to dig too deeply because of the fear it produces in her mind. The man is reliving the murder of his wife for the fifth year in a row and is trying to keep it hidden from his house guest.

The story opens with a woman stumbling through a forest in the cold and rain. She has no idea where she is or how she had gotten here. She finally stumbled onto a gravel road. She decided to follow the road uphill when she saw a glimmer of light. Just before reaching the house she has to cross a creek but before she makes it across the bridge a surge of water washes her off into the creek.

This was a great book.  I liked the relationship between the hero and heroine, and the development of his character and feelings of guilt and inability to please his first wife.
