This is book 5 in the Darkyn series. Jayr is the only female  to serve as seneschal to a Darkyn lord (Byrne). She is secretly in love with Master Byrne.  Byrne has long been a warrior for the Kyn (vampires) and he fears he is losing his ability to control his berserker rage.

Aedan mac Byrne is the suzeraine, or ruler, of The Realm, a Darkyn haven that entertains humans with a restaurant that is reminiscent of the jousts and feasts of old like Medieval Times. Jayr is his seneschal. She is the only female seneschal so holds an important position as a female amongst men who think of females as possessions.

Gabriel Seran was captured by the Brethren and tortured for over 6 months. They have him nailed to a cross with copper nails in an abandoned church in France. They have just sealed him behind a brick wall to die. Of course the Kyn die slowly so it could take a while.

Another Darkyn novel. There are a couple of stories running concurrently, and though it made for fast pacing and many interesting things going on, it didn't delve into either story as much as I really wanted! :)
