Marian Keyes

This Charming Man is a tough book to review. It shares many similarities with other books by Marian Keyes that I've read and enjoyed--the humor, the unflinching look at some bad character traits, and the precisely drawn and specific love stories. But there is an additional plot element in this book. I found it unsettling and wrenching, partially because I wasn't expecting it.

My 77th read of the year...I seem to be slowing down.....must read more....

The Book:

Good book - would be a good closure book for people who have lost someone close to them.

I realised that my TBR would look smaller if I made an effort to read some thick books. So that's what I decided to do - alternating a thick book and a thin (i.e. Harlequin) book until the pile looks more manageable.

This book was the thickest of the lot. A huge doorstop of a book. But oh, what a wonderful book. Here's the back blurb:

I listened to this at the Y while working out, so lots of people saw me laugh and cry. Thank God I was so engrossed witht he story I finished it at home this morning because I SOBBED (happy sobs) the last five minutes of the story.
