A man lies to his mother about having a fiancée because she is ill.  But in the end the man falls  for the fake fiancée.  I like the story line.

Lisa was abadonded  by her husband

she started a catering bussiness

to help pay the bills he left behind

including two morgages

she meets Joe when she bids on a job for the company party

he tells his mother that Lisa is his girl friend so

that she will get off his back about geting married and having a family

Joe is desperate because of his interfering ill mother so he asks Lisa to pretend to be his girlfriend/fiancée. She makes it a business deal but soon her children love him and Joe’s mother is pushing for a firm date. Is she as ill as she seems? Will Lisa and Joe transform their pretend engagement into a real one?

I really liked this book, then I havent been dissapointed with a American Romance yet.

The mom was sooo single momish, trying to protect her kids from the big, gorgeous man and yet caving in because she needed the money for her kids. It was a lost cause from the start, and you know it but can't stop reading and enjoy the ride none the less.

Very good.  The story moved well and the characters were likable.  Would recommend!!!

He has to tread carefully around his mother until he's sure she has recovered from the heart attack. But her attempts to manipulate him was creating all sorts of problems. One evening she sent the daughter of a friend to meet him at a dinner he had planned. Unfortunately he had been at dinner with a prospective client and the incident nearly cost him that client's business.
