145. Dinah McCall ~ The Survivors ~ MIRA Romantic Suspense (Mar 2007)

challenge_name:

Yet another of Sharon Sala's / Dinah McCall's books sitting on my shelves for awhile that I had been meaning to get to.  Sometimes I guess I just have way too many excellent books to read that I end up having more BISHRS!
This story, like so many of Dinah McCall's has a strong paranormal / supernatural element to it and I do so love these!  The way that, even when faced with seemingly unsurmountable obstacles, her characters persevere is always inspiring.  I also love the way that her characters connect ~ at some point they're taken down to the very basic part of their nature and what you see is what you get... and that's always a person of honour, strength, integrity and hope.  After reading this story ~ and the third of hers in a row ~ I'm so feeling that I want ALL of her backlist books that I'm missing... which is actually a LOT.  Wink
Once again an outstanding adventure filled with suspense and tension, but leavened with not one, but two, heartwarming romances. YUM!  VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND... of course.

RATING:
Excellence: Excellent ~ 4.0 stars
Steaminess: Sensual

144. Dinah McCall ~ Touchstone ~ Harper Contemporary Romance (Nov 99)

challenge_name:

I've been looking forward to reading this one since I got, oh back a while ago... so I'm not sure just why it took so long for me to sit down and just read it.  But it was a wonderful story ~ definitely emotionally intense.
Rachel lost nearly everything important to her, except Houston Bookout, the man she's loved for a long time... and he returns the love.  It was extremely difficult, but I think that the reason she left him behind was because she just didn't know what to do next and leaving Mirage, Texas behind seemed to be her only recourse.  Heartbreaking to be sure, especially when Houston returns home to find nothing and no one.
But in many ways I think that they both benefited from their time apart, as hard as it was.  In any case, this is a story not to be missed by anyone who is a fan of Dinah McCall's / Sharon Sala's writing.  A definite treasure which I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

143. Sharon Sala ~ Chance McCall ~ Harper Romance (Aug 93)

challenge_name:

Like so many of Sharon Sala's stories, this one had me from the very beginning.  Her understated recitation of Chance burning down a house was certainly an attention-grabber and as the story progressed we're slowly given the background to the opening scene.  Ms. Sala has a way of inciting all-encompassing interest.  Her characters, their individual and combined stories display a marvelous talent, and show just how in touch with human nature she is.  As always an excellent story by a favourite and autobuy author.  VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

The Healer by Sharon Sala (MIRA, Apr 08)

challenge_name:

Jonah Gray Wolf has always had an uncanny connection to animals and has always been a healer. He's been a drifter for 10 years, staying ahead of the man who wants to use Jonah's healing gifts for his own gains. Wintering in West Virginia, he finds Luce and immediately they know they are soul mates. But now he has a weak spot that the bad guy will use, b/c no doubt in Jonah's mind, the bad guy will learn about Luce. A good read. Some of the members of our local reading group had problems with jumps in the POV but I only noticed once or twice. There were a couple of things that didn't quite jive with me but overall a really good read and a fantastic epilogue. NFM

136. Sharon Sala ~ The Healer ~ MIRA Romantic Suspense ~ April 2008

challenge_name:

Sharon Sala is a favourite and autobuy author and has been for years... in both of her guises.  Until now, I figured that it was her stories written under Dinah McCall that were more mystical, but obviously not!  Either way, I was not disappointed in this story ~ and I have debck3 to thank for the fact that I moved this book up; so "Thanks Deb... great review!"

The connection that Jonah Gray Wolf has with animals is wonderful; his connection with Lucia is beautiful and right from the very beginning their spiritual union shone through.  This story took me away and it took me a little over 4 hours of interrupted reading to finsh... I did not want to put the book down.  If you enjoy mysticism connected to nature; if you enjoy a soul-deep connection in your romance; if suspense adds a little fillip to your reading, then this is a story for you.  VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

RATING:
Excellence: Excellent to OUTSTANDING ~ 4.5 stars
Steaminess: Romantic, barely Sensual
