Reading by numbers...we can DO this folks!

book bag icon.bmp

So I'm sitting here at my desk and thinking to myself HOW am I going to galvanize the Community into going that extra mile and hitting our numbers this month? And I took down my handy dandy calculator (yup, be AFRAID folks) and I said to myself....hmmmm, let's see now. I know we have 2,601 Community members as of Monday (Thank you, Scott) and I know we have to read and review 100,000 Books.

So I took the 100,000 books and divided that by the number of available hands we have on-deck and guess what I came up with?

I absolutely LOVE Harlequin books!

I am so thrilled to be a part of this community of readers.  I've been reading Harlequins for years and years.  I don't remember which book was my first, but I was basically a teenager when I read my first.  I have read from these lines:

ZERO TBR, sob, sniffle, sigh

That's right!  You heard it here first.  I have absolutely NOTHING in my TBR pile.  As a matter of fact, I don't have a pile!!!

I have some orders placed, but nothing is in my mailbox so far this week.

7,000 Books On the Wall!!

I know we can do this folks, we're only 50 books off of our goal of 7,000 books read for the month of March and gearing up to at least double that by the end of April. So...no excuses Lucy, if you've got books to blog about, get busy....we're sooooo close! At the end of April we are planning to send out the first shipment of books from our Distribution Center in Buffalo to the National Center for Family Literacy and the books will assist the NCFL with their FACE literacy program.

Can You Teach Me The "Business" of Books?

Ok, so I am NO where close to being as close to publised as Jody, but I do have a question for some of you who are seriously pursuing writing as a career. When can you consider "writing" as a business? If I decide today that I am going to become a published author and I start working towards that goal, then can I start claiming business expense on my taxes?

MIA and the Oscars

It feels as though I have abandoned blogosphere. I'm not visiting my favorite blogs daily, nor am I posting on a regular basis. My brain is full and focused on my deadline book. There aren't enough hours in the day and all that. I'm hoping this is temporary, because I really miss blogoshere and all the witty and delightful inhabitants.

Books, books and yet more books...

Oh boy... so much for part of the self-challenge that I set myself!  I was hoping that my book acquiring would slow down a bit and that I'd be able to work through my TBR a little more consistently, but here it is, January 19 and I've already managed to add to my large TBR, 47 books ~ that's not including the books that I got in trade from Karen and Michaela (49) ~ and a few eBooks here and there.  Uh, yeah... so far in the new year I've managed to add over 100 books to my TBR.

What's on YOUR TBR Shelf?

Jana just did a great post about having too many books and too little time. I can *so* relate!

eBook Update!

(Third post for the day on the subject!)

Okay I've
been pouring over the information out there… PDA's do basically what I
want.  Who knew!  BUT they're small.  Good and bad to that.  Can't read
for too long without eye strain.  But then I don't usually have that

Not your grandmother's romance

I was browsing the Library Journal Web site today and spotted this interesting video about what the romance genre is all about right now.
