Water for Elephants

challenge_name:

A literary novel about an old man who remembers his youth, when he worked for a traveling circus as a vet.

Very engrossing read about a circus, a love affair, human foibles. It's all bookcased by the man "today", in an assisted living facility, remembering the events that occured in his youth. Recommended.

Untamed by Nora Roberts - Silhouette Books 1983 - Re-Issued 2002

challenge_name:

The heroine, Jo Wilder, is a lion trainer in a travelinguntamed circus. Orphaned since the age of 7, she follows in the footsteps of her father. The circus is the only family she's ever known. But if working with the wild lions has taught her anything, its not to lose concentration when she's in the cage with them alone. When Keane Prescott, new owner of the circus comes along, she's thrown off-kilter. She's never met anyone like him and he's occupying her mind.

If there was anything about this book that I didn't like, it was that Nora Roberts only showed Keane's POV once - or twice at the most. I'm used to reading both POV's in current books although there are still books and authors that don't prescribe to this style. I want to know what the hero is thinking.

Other than that, I enjoyed reading this book. It gave me new insight into the life of a traveling circus. I wonder if Nora lived with a circus for awhile or just researched one before writing the book.

I bought this at a used bookstore last summer because I was curious what all the hoopla was about this author. Now, because of the ‘New to You' challenge, I found myself digging it out of my TBR pile.

When I started Untamed, I was surprised to find it was written in 1983 because the book cover is current. And yes, circus life and its attractions have changed in the past twenty-five years, however, the story itself is ageless.

Water for Elephants - another fan!

Jayne did such a good job of describing this book, so I won't even attempt that here. I will say that I LOVED it. It was such an amazing story, and so well told.

I finished the audio version of Water for Elephants this weekend. There have been many rave reviews already about the print version and how great the story is, so I'll stick to the audio elements.

Water for Elephants

I had a hard time remembering the name of Water for Elephants. Somehow, I kept confusing the title in my mind with the movie title, Like Water for Chocolate, and ended up thinking that I had to read ''Chocolate for Elephants" for my bookclub group.Surprised
