The Negotiator

Hands of Flame by C.E. Murphy (unabridged audio) (LUNA 2008)

Fantastic story! Pure Genius!! Filled with twists and turns and surprises at every corner! If you haven't picked up this trilogy yet, you simply must!! I'd really liked the first two in this trilogy and had read a couple of reviews, so I definitely expected to like this final one, but it soooo exceeded my expectations! In the last 25 minutes of this audio book, my family had to put up with not bothering me plus listening to my, "OHMYGOSH!"-es and the like as Murphy kept the action and surprises and wrap-up coming. I'm not going to do a plot summary -- it's just too complex and no way to do one without spoilers. Suffice it to say that attorney Margrit Knight gets herself intwined with the "Old Races" -- vampires, gargoyles, dragons, selkies, djinn. Any "rules" that you think you know just don't apply and wow! bam! Murphy pulls things together in ways that you just don't expect. Downside, I've no idea who or what Chelsea Hu really was, and this is the third in a trilogy, so I guess that my curiousity will go unsatisfied. Third in "The Negotiator" trilogy. Available from LUNA and audible.com, read by Eve Bianco. NFM

Second installment in The Negotiator series. I really enjoyed this one. Lots of intrigue. Questions left dangling at the end. Some romance, but it's secondary to the plot. That doesn't bother me, but if you want a clear-cut romance then you might need to think hard about this one. Margrit Knight gets even more involved with the 5 remaining "old races". Who is aligned with whom, who poses dangers to whom? And who and what is Grace? I'm looking forward to the 3rd installment (due out in September). Available from LUNA and audible.com. Heart of Stone by C.E. Murphy (LUNA 2007, unabridged audio)

I really enjoyed this installment -- first of at least three. So far, I'm liking this series better than The Walker Papers (also by Murphy), which I really enjoyed. Available from LUNA and audible.com. Read by Eve Bianco. The blurb edited: Jogging through Central Park after midnight wasn't a bright idea. But Margrit Knight never thought she'd encounter a dark new world filled with magical beings, not to mention a dying woman and a mysterious stranger with blood on his hands. Her logical lawyer instincts told her it couldn't all be real, but she could hardly deny what she'd seen...and touched. The mystery
