New Orleans
288. Heather Graham ~ Deadly Night ~ MIRA [Oct 08] ~ Flynn Brothers trilogy
Heather Graham has got a new, very spooky, trilogy out with books being published in three consecutive months; of course I had to get, and read right away, the first book. This book, anyway, deals with the ghostly element that I love in her latest books (The Presence, Ghost Walk, The Vision, etc.) and is set, once again, in New Orleans. But along with a number of ghostly apparitions, there is a definite sense of evil that pervades the story and it really kept me glued to the pages.
For anyone that enjoys thrillers, romantic suspense and ghosts, this is a story for you!
The next two books in the trilogy ~ Deadly Harvest and Deadly Gift ~ will be released in November and December respectively.
RATING:
Excellence: Excellent ~ 4 stars of 5
Steaminess: Yummy / Sensual
City of Refuge by Tom Piazza (General Fiction/Literary Fiction)
New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina, the story of 2 families --- an unexpected treasure.
Going All Out by Jeanie London
This is the third in the "Red Letter Nights" series. This is the second twin Breanne Addison' story. Twin sister Tallis story was the first one Give Me Fever. Ancestor and ghost Gabriel Dampier needs to help Bree to find true love in order to break the curse against their family and to free himself from walking the Earth forever. But though Bree is extremely attracted
Goes Down Easy by Alison Kent
This is the second book in the "Red Letter Nights" series set in New Orleans. Jack Montgomery has come to town on the trail of a kidnap victim except the trail goes cold. Then a newspaper reporter links psychic Della Brazille with the investigation. Jack goes to Della shop and meets her niece Perry. Jack doesn't believe in Della's abilities, but so many of her visions have been r
Last Known Victim (MIRA - April 2008)
Another grisly page turner from Erica Spindler. I was really interested in the setting of this one - back story includes a murder that took place during the chaos of Hurricane Katrina, and we are told the story from the perspective of various members of the police and detective units that are still very much struggling with the physical and emotional aftermath of that disaster.
Give Me Fever by Karen Anders
Lost Souls – Lisa Jackson (Kensington) Apr 08
In Lost Souls, we see Kristi Bentz (daughter of Detective Rick Bentz - if you know Lisa Jackson you definitely know that name) come to the forefront. Kristi Bentz has nearly died twice at the hand of a serial killer. With a father like Detective Bentz, you never know what can happen especially when you have developed a fascination with the mind of a serial killer instead of heeding the warnings. After her father has banned her away from any of his previous cases, she becomes determined to find her own case to study. Her goal is to write a true crime novel. She gets a little too close to the case of missing girls from All Saints College and becomes a victim instead of the investigator – will she live to write her book. This was another great addition to the New Orleans series. If you love suspense romance and you haven’t read Lisa Jackson, you are missing out.
For more on Lost Souls read the cover blurb below. It was so long I put my thoughts first.
Last Known Victim
This book really has some twists and turns. Just as soon as you think you know who the culprit is, along comes a new plot twist. You really get a feel for the characters and a sense of New Orleans after Katrina.
Dark Needs at Night's Edge by Kresley Cole (Pocket Books Romance, 2008)
Fourth in the Immortals After Dark series. This one does not have the emotional depth of the first book (A Hunger Like No Other), but it’s not bad at all.
From the back cover:
“A raven-haired temptress of the dark…
