Southern Vampire mystery

In Dead to Worse, Sookie is trying to get her life back to normal after the explosion in Rhodes.  But there are some things making that challenging.  Her boyfriend is missing, she discovers a long lost relative or two, and has both were and vampire politics invading her life (what else is new?).  So much for back to normal.  A lot of things are cleared up in this story and some new things are

I don't know how Charlaine Harris makes everything so bizarre seem so real, but, whatever her secret is, I wish I knew it!  This latest entry into the Southern Vampire series pulled me into her mysterious northern Louisiana realm once again.  Sookie has a missing boyfriend, gets mixed up in a Were war and a hostile takeover of Vampire territory, while trying to keep her head on straight, avoid reading minds, and just incidentally, not getting killed.  (And we think we have it tough...)

This is the first Sookie Stackhouse "Southern Vampire" mystery.  I've read others in the series and was curious as to what started it all out.  Good for lovers of vampire fiction who wonder what it would be like if the Japanese invented synthetic blood and they could "come out of the coffin," so to speak.  When barmaids who date vampires start getting killed, Sookie becomes a target.  Could it be her Casanova-like brother, Jason, as the police suspect, Sookie's new boyfriend, Bill the Vampire, or is it someone else?
