Six months after Rose Kaufman married Joe he went off to war, he died in the war, never seeing his daughter. It was Charlie Shapiro that came back from the war. Since Rose lived in the same neighbourhood Charlie would visit her and tell her about Joe, about the war, eventually falling in love with her. Even though he knows that Rose still hold Joe in her heart he still proposes to her, promising to take care of her and her daughter. She knows she isn't being fair to Charlie but accepts his marriage proposal. Would loving Charlie mean having to let go of Joe? Would Charlie be second best, forever?

It took me a little longer than usual to get swept away by Debra and Jonah, but by the end it all came together nicely.

J.P. Harrington first sees Kat Kiley in a war zone in Central America.  He is a foreign correspondent and she is a combat photographer in the way of oncoming troops about to get herself killed.  He goes after her, and wisks her away from danger although she doesn't seem particularly thankful.  She's got a prickly personality but that isn't enough to dissaude J.P.
