Because a young woman went to a music lecture in 1923, 29 lives were saved from the Nazis. That is quite possibly/probably a true statement. Louise Cook was a civil servant in England, probably 22 years old, and came home from that lecture determined to buy a gramophone. She received an unexpected bonus shortly after that and bought a gramophone for 23 pounds. She also bought 10 records, which back then were only one-sided. The sales clerk persuaded her to buy 2 vocal recordings instead of all instrumental. And from there, Louise and her younger sister, Ida, became Opera lovers.

Yes, this is supposed to be a blog entry. I haven't finished the book yet (this is an autobiography). I've been able to read only a bit at a time for several days now and when I stop to tell whoever is nearby and try to purge the tears in my heart, the tears in my eyes and throat just get in the way . . .
