The Diplomat's Wife - Pam Jenoff

How can I possibly do justice to this book (which is why this review is so loooong)? I loved it so much! Because it’s a historical reflection of the holocaust, WWII, and the Cold War, most people won’t find it to be a typical ‘romance’. Yet it does contain a beautiful romantic love story that’s achingly real and touching.

Unsung Hero

Now, what good girl who has a naughty streak hasn’t dreamed about the
bad boy? I’m jealous of this good girl ‘cuase the bad boy lived on her
property and she got to spy on him. Anyway, this book made me swoon for
the hero. I wanted to be Dr. Kelly Ashton and get the bad boy. Jeez.
Not many books make me do that. Not many books make the characters come

We Followed Our Stars by Ida Cook (wrote for M&B as Mary Burchell)

Because a young woman went to a music lecture in 1923, 29 lives were saved from the Nazis. That is quite possibly/probably a true statement. Louise Cook was a civil servant in England, probably 22 years old, and came home from that lecture determined to buy a gramophone. She received an unexpected bonus shortly after that and bought a gramophone for 23 pounds. She also bought 10 records, which back then were only one-sided. The sales clerk persuaded her to buy 2 vocal recordings instead of all instrumental. And from there, Louise and her younger sister, Ida, became Opera lovers.

Yes, this is supposed to be a blog entry. I haven't finished the book yet (this is an autobiography). I've been able to read only a bit at a time for several days now and when I stop to tell whoever is nearby and try to purge the tears in my heart, the tears in my eyes and throat just get in the way . . .

Raid, The Untold Story of Patton's Secret Mission

challenge_name:

This book is written by men who actually went on the raid.  Was it a suicide mission?  The orders for the mission came from Gen. George S. Patton himself.  Task Force Baum was to act as am armored strike force behind the German enemy lines - with no ground or air support - and liberate a POW camp at Himmelburg where Patton's son-in-law was being held captive.
