Yukon

I first read Kate Bridges after someone posted a book review here of her book the Surgeon. Well, I enjoyed that so much that when I found Klondike Doctor in a used book store, I grabbed it. But of course it got sort of buried in the TBR. But finished it this weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Loreth's best yet! The spine-tingling suspense kept me reading! Satisfying romance despite incredible danger!

     I had the opportunity to get a copy of Loreth's latest book early and I jumped at the chance... 'cause I'm a reading addict and I like trying new authors.  Well, with this story I've found a new favourite and auto-buy author.  Not only did I love the taut thriller aspect to the story ~ I'm always up for Suspense ~ but the romance between two scarred and hurting people was wonderful.  And the descriptions of the wilderness where Gabe and Silver found themselves hunting evil and fighting to survive gave me goosebumps. The action was detailed and very immediate; in many excellent ways, this story came across more as a novel ~ there was so much detail and heartfelt description that it was a big story masquerading as a shorter contemporary romantic suspense.... Fabulous! and a book that I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!  

   On a personal note:  Nearly two years ago our oldest daughter moved to Whitehorse, YT (Yukon Territory) and found the home of her heart.  And while she's in Cairo, Egypt now (and could you have a greater contrast?) when she returns to Canada she will be returning to the North.. and we'll be visiting for sure!  So, having a story set in the Yukon really brought to heart the reasons why my daughter loved it so much ~ she's such a non-city girl that one!
  So while this story was fantastic to read, it also struck an emotional chord for me... and wasn't that perfect?

A funny, delightful read about Lindsey Parker, who is spending Christmas with her mother at the resort/lodge of old family friends in the Yukon, and RJ, one of the hostess' many brothers. Lindsey lived there until she was 16. Zany cast of characters including a great-aunt who makes accurate predictions about people's love lives and the stock market, annoying cousins, a widowed mother finding love again . . . and Lindsey and RJ. RJ drove Lindsey crazy in one way while they were growing up and is driving her crazy in another way now. A well-done read with a mostly realistic wrap-up regarding how these two can merge their very different lives. NFM
