** SPOILERS ** SPOILERS ** SPOILERS ** SPOILERS ** SPOILERS **
Before I go into any detail I'm going to reiterate: This is a blog for Patricia Briggs' latest book in her Mercedes Thompson series, Iron Kissed. will contain SPOILERS. If you haven't read this book and / or the series yet, and you don't want to know anything that is to come ~ don't visit this blog... 'cause I'm dying to talk about this book ~ and Debbie from D2K Paranormal Junkies is also very interested in discussing various and sundry points. So, be warned!
** SPOILERS ** SPOILERS ** SPOILERS ** SPOILERS ** SPOILERS **
There are a few things that I'm really interested in talking about: one is the realization that both Mercy and Sam had about their relationship.... Nice to have some of the tension regarding that out of the way!!
The second point was one that you alluded to Debbie regarding the sensitivity, delicacy and absolute mastery used in the latter parts of the book.... Who knew that Ben had so much inside him? Not me! But wow... that whole bit there really gets my throat all tight and eyes welling. Man....

This is coming up as a blog entry and not a book review
Just so you know.

Sensitive issues...
Oh yes, Ben impressed me sooooo much with the courage he had to stand up to Adam and then the way he made Adam understand what was going on. I also liked the fact that he told Adam if he blamed Mercy, to leave and others would take care of her. He was SO protective!! I cried nonstop during this part. I also liked the fact that the gory details weren't dragged out because frankly I didn't need to know them.
I was glad she chose one of them simply because I didn't want this series to veer off of its urban fantasy base into romance, or worse, into the direction that Laurell K Hamilton took. But then, I'd read a post from Briggs awhile back when some made that sort of comment and she kept saying, just trust her. Now I do!!
BTW, Fake Frenchie... she's already blogged the book as a book review; this is meant to be a blog so we can discuss spoilers since there isn't a white out function for us to do that on the book review.

I liked
I liked Sam but I really wanted her to settle on Adam. Sam needs his own happy ending with someone else. I think he's a very interesting person and would like him to have a story.

Regarding Ben...
In the first book I really didn't like him much; he came across as such a cocky, arrogant jerk that cared for no one but himself.
Then what he went through in the second book; definitely he became more human and not as big a jerk.
And the way he stood up for Mercy ~ the way that he Knew just what she was going through and did for her what he could... Then when he stood up to Adam... HOLY COW!
If Ben doesn't find someone eventually I'm gonna be ticked!! And, like you Debbie, what an emotional section... but wonderful at the same time.
All's I can say is: WOW!

Sam...
I was torn in the first book and throughout most of the second... but as the series has progressed, Adam is definitely the better one for her.
So much of the emotional connection that Mercy had with Samuel was based in their past. And you're so right Deb, that Sam needs someone else. I really hope that he does find someone, but he's going to have to want her for herself, not any children that she may be able to give him.
There's a lot more heat between Mercy and Adam than there ever was between her and Sam.

Ben
Ben was a character I just wasn't wild over. But after this book, I'm in love with him! The sensitivity and caring he showed... his willingness to stand up for her to his Alpha... I mean WOW!! I hope he gets a HEA even though I don't want this book to turn towards romance but to stay in the urban fantasy genre. Ben just wowed me totally.
And yes, Samuel's whole focus on the fact Mercy could give him kids annoyed me to no end. I like them being more like siblings rather than a couple. It fits better imo.

Debbie...
DEFINITELY! On both points.
What a transformation in Ben... but slowly and, thence, more believable. And I like the point that you made about wanting this series to remain Urban Fantasy instead of romance. It just wouldn't be the same if the focus did change... but I really, really hope that somewhere, there's a mate for Ben.
And Sam and Mercy being more like siblings... true, so true. Like Mercy said "I love you, but I'm not IN love with you."... or something along those lines. A relief for both of them ~ even Sam. And with him I think that it was more a matter of pride than anything else.

Ben
Surely there are plans for his story, right? Right? Um, right????
The D2K Paranormal Junkies 2008 Challenge
Surely!
... otherwise I might just have to get all upset and stuff! LOL
I guess I could always check to see if there's any information on Patricia Briggs' site eh? But yeah, it'd be good to see more of Sam... *nudge, nudge, wink, wink*
