Submission questions for a podcast

Birgit Davis-Todd and I are going to do a podcast next Tuesday morning about how to submit a manuscript. Naturally, we both took vacation tomorrow and Monday! :) So we hope to be able able to remember our jobs on Tuesday. Still, we've got some things to talk about, but if there was anything you thought must be convered, do drop a comment and we'll see if we can work it in. And if not in this one, Malle has threat... er  persuaded us to do another in a few months and we might cover it then (or just answer here if you were kind enough to post and actually want an answer to something!).

So drop a line if there's something you think newbies should know/do, and lets see if we can make this as painless as possible for all concerned.

 Thanks--and happy reading!

All Updated...

And the nice thing is that the listening feature has been fixed. If you use the pulldown bar, you can listen to any of the previous podcasts. (I'm listening to the series as I type!)

Sorry Dee, can you tell me which pull down bar you are talking about?

Seems , I have gone temporarily blind.

Thanks.

Nah, you're not blind.

Scroll down the page to the bottom of the Meet The Editor's page. Look for these words:

Don't Miss These Meet the Editors Episodes!

Beneath then is the pulldown bar and the Go button.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, Dee!

That sounds wonderful.  I have a little trouble with most podcasts (being on dial-up), but they're worth the effort of stop-and-start listening.  I'll have to make time to do this!  Cool

It really was easy

hold on. I have to think a minute and remember how I did it....

OK, click on the link at the top of the page that says "this month" It will take you the podcast page.

At the bottom of the page are boxes where you can choose to subscribe to the author or editor podcasts using different methods. Choose "iPod" and that should take care of it for you.

See, it was easy. Cool

LOL

But you're the one with the spreadsheet (color coded) that details where you're going, when you're going, and what outfit you're wearing, down to shoes and jewelry.  I just take all black pants and maybe two pairs of black shoes.  Matches everything, so I don't have to worry about it, 'cause too many details makes my head hurt. Cool

trish

Okay, I subscribed to the Podcasts...

via iTunes but it only downloaded the "Blaze" one...how do I get them all?

I'd love a podcast on the historicals, too.

I've listened to all of them.  Thanks to Michelle Styles for pointing them out to me, because I had no idea they even existed until then.  There's still so much that I'm learning about the site.

in iTunes, go to the Podcasts icon, where your podcasts are stored and click on it.  That should open all the podcasts your are subscribed to in the window to the right.  Each podcast your are subscribed to should have a little arrow-like thingy that looks sorta like this >, only filled in.  When you click on it, it will open a list of all the podcasts available under that subscription.  From there you can choose to get them all, or just the ones you want.

Hope this helps and holler if I confused you. It's still early here. Laughing

Thanks Trish!

That was totally clear...downloading them now!

Intrigue podcast

Hi Dee, I'd love to hear the Intrigue podcast and have been trying to get the podcast to play for the last week, but I can't seem to access it from my end. Is there an error?

Kind regards, Linda J

Wonderful

I listened to the Silhouette Desire and Special Edition podcasts - good stuff. It feels like talking to the editors and most of my questions were answered.

Will be visiting again.

Thanks for doing that Dee. Talking about being left in suspense! I hope they return soon because I'm so looking forward to listening to Alison and Denise talking about Intrigue.

oh, and Intrigue one!

I haven't had time to tune into the podcasts lately and hadn't realized we made it to the Intrigues .... I hope they get it fixed soon, as I'd love to listen to that one!

though really, all the Editor podcasts are fantastic listens ... I've learnt so much about the lines ... and as a reader it's a treat to hear where the Editors invision the lines going or what their visions are  ....  and I love their recommendations ....

Intrigue Podcast

Hi,

The Presents Podcast works great but the Intrigue one still doesn't work.

Hey Anne,

I'm adding it to my morning list of things to check out for you. :)

uploading to Sansa Fuze

I thought I posted this already but I can't find the post.

I need to know how I can upload podcasts to a Sansa Fuze.

I have iTunes but I can't seem to get it to accet the Sansa. Does it work only with an iPod?

 Help please

Thanks

Thanks for looking into it Dee. I'll keep checking back.

What I'm getting...

is that the epi 10 works just fine, while the Intrigue one is still unaccessable. And neither are available on iTunes as yet. I've sent out a question to see if the tech is back, but even if he is, if bigger issues loom anywhere on the site, they might take priority. :)

I have to admit, I won't be much help with the Sansa issue. Podcasts are not always transferrable, but I don't see why they wouldn't be on an MP3 player unless you're downloading your podcasts in MP4 format, in which case, the player won't be able to read them. Check the settings on your iTunes downloader. :) MP4 is the default on Macs.

Hope that helps!

Dee

Thanks Dee, I'll try it.

Hi Dee...

I tried subscribing from iTunes store and got the message 'disabled Subscribe: Harlequin(etc)'

When I try to subscribe from here, nothing happens. I think it's a kink from the upgrade.

I could listen here at my desk on my computer but I'd rather do it while I try to walk off some of my sedentary lifestyle! Or at work when the work gets boring.

Hmmm...

Do you have a PC? I'm not sure if that poses a problem or not. I have a Mac, so I have iTunes 8. Not in any of the 7 versions did I not have access to podcasts... Not sure what's going on for you. You should be able to see your podcasts subscriptions  under "Library" in the left column of the iTunes browser.

Let me know and I'll see what I can parse out.

Hi Dee...

Yes, I have a Mac. I should probably upgrade to iTunes 8. The weird thing is, the podcasts did download and were filed under Podcasts below Library. Then the next day Podcasts was gone. Pouff! Guess I'll try downloading 8 this evening. Tx.

Hi Dee...

I downloaded iTunes 8, which required that I download QuickTime 7. But the subscribe, both at eH and iTunes, doesn't work. Have you had a chance to ask the IT guys if it has something to do with the eH upgrade? That's when it seems to have happened. tx

Chrissie ...

you can download the Harlequin Podcasts directly through iTunes  ...

open iTunes ... click on the iTunes Store on the left sidebar .... then at the very top right you should now see a "search iTunes store" ..... simply type Harlequin ... you'll see the choice for Harlequin Author Spotlight ... and Harlequin Meet the Editors ..... click on one and then on subscribe ... you can go back and subscribe to the other one as well

when you subscribe, the entire list of previous podcasts for that series will come up .... you can then select the ones you want to download ... when you subscribe, from that time forward whenever you open iTunes, it will search and download any new releases

hope this helps

... and I checked, the podcasts will download straight through iTunes, I'm updating mine right now

Edited to ADD .... there is a definite problem with the network ..... every attempt to d/l new episodes through iTunes netted an error --- There was a problem downloading ... the network connection timed out.

Chrissie & Katherine

I've sent off our SOS on this one. I'm not quite sure how to fix what's going on, but our tech should be on it soon.

I'll keep you posted,

Thanks KT and Dee...

The instruction were helpful, at least I know I was doing it right, as I fumbled my way through.

Still not working at this time. I'm sure the IT guys will fix it.

I also noticed that the other day Harlequin was listed under Podcasts, Featured Providers, and now it's not on that list.

medical podcast

Hi Dee, I'd love to listen to the medical editors podacst, but have been unable to access it since it first appeared. Just thought I'd mention it in case you didn't know that this current podcast link isn't working.

Thanks. BTW the new look on the boards is great and very inviting with the many extra features of information displayed around the sides. The techies do a great job.

I went to the iTunes store

I went to the iTunes store and tried to subscribe to another poscast. Didn't work. So, maybe iTunes is the malfunctioning part to this puzzle.

Chrissie ...

not iTunes .... I can access other podcasts that are not Harlequin  ..... no, this is definitely a problem with the server that houses the Harlequin podcasts

it may have to do with the server changes here

It was good before!

Before this last reformat of the site, I was able to download the podcasts. I really enjoyed listening to them while I washed dishes, etc.

But now, the option I used to use 'other' is gone. There are only 4 options for subscritions and I've just spent 2 hrs trying to get the Harl Historical podcast downloaded. The google reader told me it would take 4 hrs! I was able to listen to it right on the site, but I want to save it to my laptop so I can upload to my mp3.

Help.

Anita Mae...

Sent off your post to the PTB, to see if there's anything to be done.

Hit or Miss...

Podcasts seem to be hit or miss for me. Sometimes when I open iTunes, 'Podcast' is listed under 'Store', sometimes not. When it's not, any Podcast I want to download (Hqn or other) is 'grayed out' or non selectable. One time I remember finding an 'enable podcast' or something like that, and when I clicked it, it turned it on. But now I can't find it. I don't remember if it was on my iTunes or on the web site. Any one know about that?

When 'Podcast' is not showing up, the podcasts I downloaded earlier are gone too. So last time it was up, I copied the podcast files to a separate 'album' folder. Now I can listen to them when I want. All I need now is to figure out how to enable the thing again so I can get the new podcasts.

Mac OSX, iTunes 8

I found the on - off thingy...

Under preferences I found 'Show' and listed under there 'Podcasts'. I'm able to download Editors from the iTunes store. However, subscribing from here isn't working for me.
