Too Long a Sacrifice by Yvonne Whital (HP 1149)
They were engaged 5 years ago, but the heroine dumped him days before the wedding via a letter. She left him because her grandmother who raised her had cancer and needed her care. The hero had been offered a very important medical internship out of the country: if she had told the hero she needed to stay at home with her grandmother, the hero would have stayed with her and given up the internship, and she wanted him to have the career he wanted. She was trying to be selfless, but her abandoning him made the hero very bitter, he never married after his relationship with her.
They meet again at present, her grandmother is now dead. This is the first time the hero has seen her since she left him with only the letter to explain, so now he confronts her and demands the REAL reason. He thinks she's a tease with men, who gets kicks out of leading them on a merry dance without sex. She is casually dating one or two men at present, and that stirs him up a little. They need to have it out about the past.
This was a good book. The five year separation was handled pretty well. The passion was still there after five years, and you could feel that at any moment the hero was going to say "you're marrying me THIS TIME". The hero didn't sound like a tramp, *wink*. The only negative is that the heroine has confided the "real reason" she left the hero to MANY of her friends, and a few of the hero's friends too, so you wonder how he never found out earlier via loose lips.
Rating: 4/5 stars, a solid read.
