We have a couple cell phones–who doesn’t. :-)
Now normally with the way we are going in all directions all the time,
I carry mine everywhere. And before you start assuming anything, cause
I know you are, I don’t talk on that phone.
Seriously! I’m not a phone talker. And really until about a month
ago when I was put in charge of calling everyone for baseball
cancelations ect… no one but my kids had the number. That was why I
got it. So they can get a hold of me. Emergencies. Now what they
deem as an emergency might be open to discussion…
The point is, my kids know if I’m not by their side, they can get a
hold of me by phone and I know if that phone is ringing, its my kids.
Yeah, well, last week I went for my run in the afternoon right after
school leaving the oldest in charge of the youngest. (Notice I didn’t
say in charge of the middle son as that would start world war
3) The day was warm. I wore shorts with no pockets. I considered
digging out the fanny pack but one look at my watch, well aware of the
tight schedule we had, I told the oldest–“If you have issues see Mary next door, I’ll only be gone for 30 minutes.”
Middle son greets me when I get home.
“You didn’t bring your phone.”
“Ah, (pant) no. (pant)”
“You want to know how I know?”
“(pant) Your brother told you? (pant, pant)”
“I dialed on this here phone.” He shows me the house line phone. “Then
this cellphone on the table began to ring. I shut off this phone and
answered the cellphone. No one answered my Hello. I hung up. I
dialed you again. The phone on the table began to ring again.”
His voice gets really agitated here and I’m collapsing to the floor
dying for breath, trying to laugh, trying to breathe–remember I’ve just
come back from running–laughing and breathing simultaneously aren’t
easy. He continues.
“I pick up that phone and say HELLO! And once again, NO ONE ANSWERED!”
I’m telling you if you could have seen the expression of
exasperation on 10’s face as he acted this out and is now obviously
standing there with a phone in each hand–one which is OBVIOUSLY MINE…it
was priceless! And then the absolute disgust which blossomed on his
face as the final scene is portrayed as he figures out what is going
on…. I laughed and laughed and laughed.
Except maybe I shouldn’t have.
Three days later, hubby takes off for batting practice. I need to
get a hold of him. I call him. No answer. Hmmm, okay, he’s busy. I
wait a bit. I try again. Still no answer. But as I’m about to hang
up I wander through the kitchen and a phone is ringing on the table. I
quickly hang up the phone I’m on and answer it. No one is there.
Imagine that. Do I even need to mention it is OBVIOUSLY hubby’s phone?
Oh and guess what? It’s almost time for me to renew my phone!
On the 21st of this month I get to pick out a new on! Oh the choices!
What is your favorite? What ‘extra’ can’t you live without?
Personally I just need a phone that works. The novelty of all these
‘extras’ is cool and I like to think I have them. But for instance, I
don’t do texting…can’t figure out why anyone would want to sit there
and pick out letters at a snail pace when you could call with one
button and leave a message in half the time. Not to mention I’m always
trying to do 10 things at once. That would force me to do one. Yuck.
Guess I’m too old for the wonder of that gadget. The Blackberry styles
are enticing to me because of all they can do but truthfully I already
own a PDA and I most certainly never have emails that HAVE to be dealt
with. Maybe some day when I sign that multi million dollar book deal…
;-) But it is fun to look at all there is out there and know I get to
pick one very soon.
Oh and just a bit of gloating…my sweet Kia(our dog) who kicked my
butt yesterday when we went for our run was WAY TOO TIRED to get up
with me this morning. :-) Oh yeah, I rock.

"Now what they deem as an emergency might be open to discussion…
"
ROFL!!! Cole, that's priceless. Kids might not admit it, but they like to have that anchor to mama, I think.
Have fun choosing a new phone. That's like the ultimate in accessory shopping. Hehehehe!
We just renewed our phones yesterday. Or rather we ditched Alltel, so that meant new phones. We had to do something though. Hubby's working out of town still, and our Alltel phones didn't work in his current service area. We had to change that asap. Not being able to reach each other is out of the question.
We ended up with a set of Sony Ericssons. Sweet hubby, he picked out a pink one for me. I love it. We set up our ringtones yesterday evening and he showed me how to check my email with it - oy, I could see that becoming a new obsession. lol
Poor, Kia. lol Congrats on that running power!

Checked out your blog
Hi Cora!
I checked out your blog...well, I guess I do daily whenever google tells me you've posted but my point is right after I read about what kind of phone you'd gotten I looked it up on the net
Knowing I had to choose I thought I'd see what you'd gotten.
I've decided they all look alike!
They have some for 1 penny--LIKE THAT. But they don't have a front window display. Not sure that I need that but the design I really liked was the razar(is that how you spell it?) Anyhow, I liked it because the screen was the biggest.
AndI totally agree with you on the email thing! It'd be easy to avoid if it's something which will cost more. I don't NEED to check my emails.
Have a good one!

LOL Frenchie!
I had to look up the Jitterbug too---had not heard of it but I got a kick out of what you'd said and then their frontline description:
Easy Large Buttons, easy to use, to see and great for an emergency phone
LOL

You found me out!
Christa! You found me out!
Your comment inspired me though and I wrote a post about attitude. It won't be up until later on this week though because I want to post some book reviews.
Oh and I absolutely LOVE Jill's blog! Though I wondered how in the world you knew I'd been there...like daily...I began to wonder...Do I have a camera here in my office? Does she know I'm slipping off to read Jill's blog when I should be writing? Is Christa watching me right now? I haven't been to Jill's blog yet...do I dare go now knowing someone is...watching me read it?

New phones
We are just about to get new cell phones at my house too. I want bells and whistles, but since I am the techie for my dad's and husband's phones, I figure I should get all three the same. So...no bells....no whistles.....they want the most basic thing I can find....and that is getting harder all the time!
