The Millionaire's Blackmail Bargain by Heidi Rice (HP)

Janet85
Format: Print Books

Back Cover:

As a lowly assistant on a magazine, Mel had been roped in to help out a colleague—and now she was about to be caught red-handed! She was hiding in the bath of a hotel suite, and the room's celebrity occupant, Jack Devlin, had just returned—to have a shower!
The millionaire was dark, brooding and handsome, and the passion that followed was amazing! Now he'd blackmailed her into a tantalizing deal—she would join his luxury, jet-set life for two weeks as his mistress!

Favourite Scene:

She leaned her head back against the tiles, stared at the gleaming silver showerhead above her and tried to piece together how exactly she’d ended up in this predicament in the first place—staring starvation, humiliation and almost certain arrest in the face.

It had all begun at the book launch when Louisa had spotted ‘the hunk’.

Another Fav Scene:

Louisa was speechless, for about ten seconds. ‘You think he had sex with you as a punishment? Ooh, that’s really kinky. I like it. Nothing like a bit of S and M to spice up a relationship.’

Yet Another Fav Scene:

She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. ‘Answer the question, Mel. How was it for you, carnally speaking?’

Mel sighed. Who was she kidding? Just thinking about that night was making the heat coil low in her belly. ‘Carnally speaking?’ The memories she’d been struggling to suppress for over a week burst back into her brain. ‘It was incredible.’ She let out a slow breath. ‘I’ve never felt so fantastic, so fulfilled, so—’

‘You better stop there.’ Louisa held her finger back up. ‘That look in your eyes is starting to make me moist.’

My Review:

This is a great read.  I loved all the witty little scenes in this book, great dialogue, moved fast, the humour and passion just kept coming.  The hero and heroine had an uninhibited but not a casual connection.  It was a nice modern romance.  I had so many fav scenes in this book.  One scene I didn't get: he took her to a cemetary with romantic history, and spouted about all the true lovers buried there and a legend about how to get true love.  Why did he spout this stuff the day after telling her he didn't do love or long-term?  Talk about sending the wrong signals.  (Of course, in the end they were the right signals: he loves her.)  The heroine wrote a biography of the hero at the end, which seemed a tad bit on the lame side to me (why is her career success about him?)  Great read though!  You'll love the humour, passion, and just how great all the side characters are, since it makes the story really come to life.  In the epilogue you see how the hero/heroine react to being parents and you can see that they really will make their love last.

Rating: 4/5 stars, great read!

Cheers Janet

Hi Janet,

Glad to see you enjoyed The Millionaire's Blackmail Bargain (mostly). Just had to clarify for you the reason why I did the cemetery scene. See ole Jack is quite a charmer and knows how to show a girl romance (especially if he's trying to seduce her) but he's basically  hoisted himself by his own petard (so to speak) because he's falling hook, line and sinker for Mel and he doesn't even know it. Which I hope explains the mixed messages. Plus, Pere LaChaise cemetery is one of my favourite places to visit in Paris, so I just had to stick in a scene there (couldn't help myself, sorry).

Noticed that a lot of your favourite scenes involved Mel's best mate Louisa. Thought you might like to know that I just sold Louisa's story (which I had to write because the woman would not stop butting into my imagination). It's called Pleasure, Pregnancy and a Proposition (in the UK, no US release as yet) and it involves Louisa, an arrogant english lord called Luke Devereaux and an ever so slightly unplanned pregnancy.

Cheers Heidi

Hee!  One scene I didn't understand doesn't make the book unenjoyable.  (It's a nit pick thing)  I really loved the style of the book, humour and passionate intensity in one book is just my favourite kind of read!

Thanks for the insight into that scene...

*grin*  Sounds good to me!  I look forward to it.  And really... "ever so slightly unplanned pregnancy" sounds so intriguing....  I wonder what that means!  I'm sure I'll like the story, Louisa's character just leapt off the pages and it will be fun to see her story (I can almost picture her bantering and sputtering her way through falling in love).
