• Tom is riding his horse through a New Mexico canyon when he comes upon a prospector who’s just been shot. The man gives Tom a notebook and asks him to give it to the prospector’s daughter. Tom and his wife find themselves in danger when the hired killer goes after them to get the notebook.
I was listening to this as I drove on I-40 west as I left Flagstaff. It got scary. I’m not fond of driving on interstates and this one was particularly populated with semis and had some steep passes. I had left my trailer at the campground and no longer had an excuse to go 60 in a 75 mph zone. I had to get off the interstate and take a side road which just happened to be what’s left of old Route 66. So, I thank this book for getting me on this part of Route 66. I’d been on parts of it in Flagstaff, Williams, Seligman and Kingman, Arizona, but would probably have missed this section if I wasn’t scared by the book. There are some (at least to me) gruesome descriptions in this book. The ending was an exciting chase on foot through the New Mexico desert. And the tyrannosaurs rex find was pretty good. A good book, a little romance between Tom and his wife, a mystery/suspense genre book.
