Lover Eternal by J.R. Ward (Book 2)

Format: Print Books
Series: Other

Favourite Scene:

The effect she had on him was druglike, a tantalizing combination of sexual need and profound ease. Like he was having an orgasm and falling into a peaceful sleep at the same time. It was like nothing he'd ever felt before.

Another Fav Scene:

A dry male voice cut through the hall. "Rhage, that female wasn't brought here for your pleasure, and this isn't One Eye, my brother. No sex in the hall."

My Review:

Mmm.  I love that the heroine had such a huge effect on Rhage's beast.  The way he met her and first heard her voice was so adorable (yet sexy of course, given he pinned her hips to the ground).  Her being ill was sad.  I don't like the use of "rythe", it comes off as "showy S&M".  I'm fine with S&M for the sake of mutual fun, but it is ritualistic and show-offish and enduring pain isn't the same as "honour" in my opinion.  I felt the hurt when the hero went to another woman, it didn't seem necessary to keep his beast under control since the same night (and nights after) he managed to have sex with the heroine without turning beast.  I wish that hadn't happened.

My Rating: 4/5 stars, I loved Rhage's feelings for Mary, it was so intense.

Hi Janet

I also loved how Rhage just had to have Mary after hearing her voice. Yum. I agree about the S & M. I don't like that part of the story but I can take it.

Margie :)

I can find S&M funny and

I can find S&M funny and sexy, but the rythe (ritual beating) was just senseless abuse, it gave off that kind of vibe.

About V on the other hand...  hmmm.   *innocent grin*  That burns an image into your brain!  (Some might find it majorly icky, but I didn't.)

This is one of my favorites,

This is one of my favorites, I do believe that I read this one in one day.  I loved Rhage from the beginning, I think I will have to read this series again real soon.

Yes, that is what I meant

Yes, that is what I meant too, the rythe, painful stuff was hard for me to take.

I think I have a crush on all these guys Yum indeed!

Margie :)

About the guys Margie...

About the guys Margie...  they are very different from the type of heroes I'm used to!  I think I got a bit of a shock reading this series.  I never have seen a huge giant of a man as a hero before, decked out in leather, packing all sorts of weapons, and pounding the pavement "hauling ass" as he kills all the bad guys...

The heroes in the Angela Knight books I've loved...  are strong, silent, and sexual beasts....  they are warriors but not in a modern day, "listen to rap and play with tech toys and leather" kind of way.

I'm crushing on the heroes of course because damn they sound like sexy beasts, but I dislike the way they treat sex casually and completely change from "players" to "destined devoted mates".

I also think that the fact that hero's go from skinny weaklings to beefcakes in JRW's world is a bit unattractive as a storyline.  Especially when it comes to the new recruits, I'd rather see the new recruits a few years down the line after they've gotten their lives together and gotten their juvenile sexual/physical experimentation and proving done with.  I think I like the BROTHERS a lot more than the new generation of heroes in the training program.  I think they are too new as warriors and an unseasoned warrior doesn't pack the same punch emotionally.

A great positive about JRW though is that her world sure is FRESH to me.  I haven't seen this before and it draws me in.

Janet

I'm not a fan of the big bulky guy either. What I really enjoy is the emotional bond "she's mine" attitude. That is what I find so yummy.

Margie :)

Hey I CAN be a fan of big

Hey I CAN be a fan of big beefy guys....  i'm just not used to it!  Don't take 'em away from me!  LOL...  *cops a feel*

And yeah...  me too on the MINE thing.  So many of my fav scenes are about possessive moments like that!  The growl of "MINE" just is so yummy.
