Description & Critique:

Holly had no choice.  She was being blackmailed by her biggest mistake.  She had to spy on Jake Vance and report back to Max…  Only from their first meeting, she felt an unusual attraction to Jake and it was mutual.  They have a few heated encounters and suddenly the press is hinting at them being an item.  Jake decides that to stabilize the Blackstone shares, he would marry Holly.  She had one good reason to accept.  He was offering to clear her parents of debt and to make sure her father got the care he needed.  Would their marriage ever be anything else than a business deal?  And what’s Jake’s link to the Blackstones, anyways?

This is book 5 of the Diamonds Down Under mini-series and it is definitely another keeper.  I am very much looking forward to reading book 6.

This is the first book I read by Paula Roe.  I have another in my TBR and I will be looking forward to reading it but it’ll have to wait until I unpack it from my boxes…  I have very few books out.

There were times when it would have been easy to dislike Jake but the glimpses of his childhood that the author gives us make it clear why he’s built such a wall around his heart.  And then we see that the ruthless business man is not that ruthless after all.  Behind all his seemingly bad deals, he’s always done a lot of good.  At the end of the day, it is impossible to deny that he’s a good guy!  It is also easy understand why he’s so uncomfortable trusting a woman.  Jake really impressed me.  His character grew and some of his behaviours were quite touching.  There was a scene between Jake and Sonya Hammond that nearly had tears running down my cheeks it was so moving.

I don’t have a lot to say about Holly because to me, this book was mostly about Jake.  She was obviously a woman who made her share of mistakes but at least she never blamed anyone else.  She tried to fix her problems herself.  That’s very admirable.

I love the way they progressively opened up to each other.  It was a definite sign that although no admissions were made, they were much closer to one another than it seemed.

The overall story continued a little and the scene is definitely set for the last book.  I will be sorry to see this bunch of characters disappear.  They kept me great company this week.

I highly recommend this book and the mini-series.

I think favourite

I think this book is my favourite. Both characters seemed so real

I know... I agree...

I thought that in this book, Jake was so BIG that his character kind of overshadowed hers but under the circumstances, it was understandable...

I've started book 6 on the bus today and so far, I'm loving it.  Matt's a man in MAJOR denial...

On a rolll

You've been on a roll with this series!

I think I've read three of

I think I've read three of the DDU series, I'm thinking I should find the rest of the books and finish off the series.  *grin*

Jake's....  Matt's.... still have to read...  And I think I also have to read Satin & a Scandalous Affair, but I'm not sure, I might have read that one months ago (if I didn't, I skimmed it at the bookstore).
