Like the last book I reviewed, Yvonne Lindsay seems to spotlight a vengeful hero out to make the heroine pay for past wrongs that he pins only on her though it's more mutual and circumstantial than "all her fault". As it turns out Mason Knight was not the only one wronged and cheated out of vital truths. Helena Milton Davies also suffered from the manipulations of someone both her and Mason trusted,her deceased husband also Mason's estranged friend and mentor Patrick Davies. Add to that people out to cause trouble and soap opera like manipulations, schemes and misunderstandings abound.
A reversal on many of the common the true paternity of her child. I would have liked a more detailed description of Helena's deceased husband to see how she could have not seen that her son looked so much like Mason before. Not a fun read for me with how dark it gets, but one I will not soon forget. I read this a few months ago, but it was after Jan 1 2008 so qualifies.
