The Desert Lord's Bride by Olivia Gates (SD 1884)
Favourite Scene:
"And hot," he finished, elation rising higher.
"Yeah, that, too…" She stopped, groaned. "I don't know why I'm telling you this…apart from the fact that I have this mind-to-mouth incontinence disease…when it's not business stuff…" She paused, seemed to struggle for breath, then burst out again. "This is ridiculous. This has to be the full moon…or the champagne. I'm not this socially handicapped."
Another Fav Scene:
"And what was that image that my name and reputation summoned to your
imagination?"
"A repulsive blob in traditional Bedouin garb, with a high nasal voice and a painful accent, reeking of musk and…"
Somebody gag and sedate her already.
Yet Another Fav Scene:
“But I realize now I can’t feel physical passion without an emotional one. And that’s why you’ll always be the only one to ignite and pleasure me. Because I love you.”
Everything ceased. To matter. Ceased, period.
Because I love you.
My Review:
I love the heroine. Love her. She's adorable with her honesty, self-sacrifice, giving love, and the fact that every other sentence out of her mouth is hilariously self-deprecating (see the fav scenes). I love the passion between them, his feelings for her are so intense and he wants her even when he thinks he shouldn't, he starts behaving out of character... I love when a hero's feelings for his heroine are that unique and rock the hero's world. When she finds out about his deception, she's hurt and makes herself sound like a tramp who was using him. I loved that he realized quickly after the initial anger cleared, when he looked into her eyes, that she had lied and he saw her true self.
Eek! Plot twist I didn't like... Shehab abdicated? Yikes. I disliked that because it's believable for one prince to abdicate, but it's irresponsible for two to abdicate! The whole reason for the arranged marriage is political stability and unity. You're not presenting a solid king if you're playing magical heirs. It's too convenient that Kamal is there to conveniently catch the slack left (once again).
I liked that he never wanted to use protection, it furthered his goal of getting her to the altar plus it was his possessive need to have a child with her... and she un/consciously wanted his child too and never objected to lack of birth control.
My Rating: 4/5 stars, yummy story, but eek to the irresponsible and too convenient abdication.

Margie... I just added 10 reviews today... here's one I want to make sure you don't miss: http://community.eharlequin.com/review/one-night-his-wife-lynne-graham-hp-2073
Lynne Grahams "One Night with his Wife".... it's a HP of course and it was a instant keeper for me. If you've read it before, reread it. If you haven't, try to find a copy. (this book by Lynne Graham totally made up for the Adultery Incident in her book "Mistress Wife"... which made me approach her books with fingers crossed to ward off evil.)
Janet
LOL on warding off the evil. Why am I not surprised that you have posted so many books! The Ward books were like reading five short books each and you finished those in 4 days or so. Between you and Sadhbh, we'll read our 100,000 goal.

I'm afraid not Margie.
I'm afraid not Margie. :( At most, i'm going to hit 1000 books. That's the MOST i can possibly read in the year. And really... we're very far away from 100 000. We're not even at 15 000. Me and Sadhbh won't do it. But hey... if there are 100 other people reading 500-1000 books, THEN we'd have a shot at it. But unless LOTS of people get up to those huge numbers like S&Me, then I don't think it'll be enough. :(
Yes, You are right. I don't
Yes, You are right. I don't like to look at the current total because it seems impossible to reach 100,000. But I hope that the charity will still get something if we don't make it.

Janet!
I just LOVE the way you list your favorite scenes. They're among my favorites, too.Smile And I'm thrilled you loved Farah and the passion between her and Shehab, and that his feelings for her are so intense and unique they rocked his world.
As for Shehab abdicating, this wasn't irresponsible, as in Judar's/Zohayd's case the arranged marriage had nothing to do with presenting a solid king for Judar, and all about producing that vital mixed-blood heir, so Shehab knew he was interchangeable with either of his brothers for that purpose, who are each of them as good as him, or as he said it and meant it, in Kamal's case, better than him at being king, being a more accomplished statesman than he was.
I'm also so glad you liked both their motives behind the lack of birth control. And I'm really blown away by your listing of your favorite scenes. They were a riot to write, as Farah came to life and constantly had the truth of what she was thinking and feeling flooding out of her mouth unchecked. Laughing

Hey Olivia, thanks for your
Hey Olivia, thanks for your post! Makes me grin. And it gives me a bit more insight, I get what you mean now about the whole importance being of having a king who marries that certain daughter to produce a mixed blood heir for political reasons. I was thinking more of the political instability and uproar it might cause to have two princes crowned, and two princes officially abdicating as well. But the political fix will be when Kamal knocks up that adopted heiress eh?? *grin*
By the way... I read at least five of the Harlequin Presents "Royal House of Niroli" books and those royal books also got me a little disinclined towards abdication plot lines. I got a little tired of seeing every single story build up the heroes as possible heirs to the throne, then have them shot down and settle into ordinary lives at the end. I really started to think "this person would make a good king" and then to see them toss aside responsibility for the sake of love just seemed unsatisfactory, since their whole life seemed to be preparing them for the throne.
So that's a bit of the back story for my wariness around royal/abdication themes.
Looking at the Royal House of Niroli books INDIVIDUALLY though, they were each great stories. It's just that as a whole it got frustrating seeing the magical heirs game.
