Ms. Ferrarella never disappoints me. Her stories are poignant, true to life adventures. She creates amazing characters that you come to know as the story unfolds and they become your best friends while you read about them. When I’m done with one of her stories it’s a little like saying good-bye to a good friend. I love to go back and revisit some of her other books that I’ve read previously.
In this particular book Caitlin is a young women trying to make her way in the world, out from under her mother’s controlling ways. Her family has history and old money and is well-respected in her hometown in Arizona. She would love to have her mother care about her, but Caitlin’s learned the hard way that the only thing her mother cares about is herself and how her daughter’s actions reflects on her.
Even though Caitlin is wealthy in her own right, after her father’s death, she is trying to prove to herself that she can make it on her own. She owns and operates a women’s lingerie shop Naughty but Nice. Circumstances and bad luck make her an eye-witness to a murder in the alley behind her shop. She hopes the murderer did not see her, but still feels it is her duty to alert the local police to what happened in the alley. Due to her 911 call a police detective is sent to her store to take her statement. Caitlin is in for another huge shock when the police detective, Graham (Gray) Redhawk, walks in the door. Caitlin and Gray have a past, they were high school sweethearts and planning to run away to get married. Each believes the other is responsible for their broken dreams and broken hearts. Now Gray Redhawk is given the duty of protecting Caitlin until the murderer is caught and brought to trial. Given their history, this is definitely a situation that neither of them wants.
