Pickpocket Countess
This is a wonderful historical novel by Bronwyn Scott. I loved this story and would recommend it to anyone who loves historicals. It's about Brandon Wycroft, Earl of Stockport, and a female cat burgler, called -- you guessed it -- the Cat. The Cat takes from the rich to give to the poor. Her real name is Nora Portman, and she has been separated from her detestable husband for 7 years (she doesn't even know if he's alive or not). She comes face-to-face with Brandon when she goes to home to burglarize it, and he catches her in the act. She ends up almost seducing him, left the ring she was going to take that he wanted badly, and left by way of his window into a tall tree and then disappeared. She is living in a home called the Grange, going by the name of Eleanore Habersham, and is dressed as a fairly large and unattractive woman that is popular with the town women. Brandon ends up putting 2 and 2 together, and realizes who she actually is. The only bad part about it is he is in lust/love with her, and doesn't want her to be caught. He decides he wants to marry her, tells her so, and gets her to quit burglarizing the rich for a while. She presents herself as his fiance at his home after she had tried to rob a home and was almost caught, deciding to use him as a willing hostage. He sends his friend, Jack, to find out if her husband is dead or alive so that he can marry her. At a party, he was talking to Jack, and she overheard some statements that made her think that he was just using her, was planning to dump her, and then probably turn her in. She is finally caught, and is rescued by Brandon's sister, Dulci, Brandon and Jack. In the end, they marry, and live HEA.
