First, let me tell you, if you enjoy steamy sex scenes in the books you read, then this book is for you. Personally, I could have done without so much of it and it could have been a little less explicit. All-in-all the story itself is top-notch, with or with out the “hot sex”. I really enjoy paranormal stories and this one was phenomenal. It’s the story of a young woman, Mira Hoskins, recently divorced, trying to put her life back on an even keel. She is working at a diner, earning enough money to pay for a small basement apartment and picking up a course here and there to complete her college degree in psychology. She notices this really “hot” guy in the diner and can’t seem to keep her mind off him. He comes to her aid in the diner when a customer puts her on the defensive. Later that same day, coming home from some grocery shopping after work, she has “visitors”. She gets a nasty bump on her forehead, which knocks her unconscious for a short time. The same man that was at the diner comes to her aid once again. He takes her to his apartment to keep her safe, telling her that he was sent to protect her. Her mind is a little fuzzy and she is fearful that he means her harm as well. Since her divorce, Mira does not trust easily, especially men. Her rescuer, Jack McAllister, was sent by Mira’s cousin, Thomas Monahan, to watch over her and protect her. Jack tells her she is actually a very powerful air witch. Mira has a difficult time believing this. Her parents both died when she was a little child and she was raised by her godmother. Mira was told that she didn’t have any other family, besides her godmother. Jack tells her that her parents did not die in a car crash, as was reported, that they were actually killed by a group of dark magic warlocks, known as the Duskoff, headed by William Crane, in order to bring forth a demon. The Duskoff bring demons forth in order to boost their magick and increase their wealth.

Even though Mira feels she cannot trust Jack yet, neither of them can deny their attraction. Jack has been charged with being Mira’s bodyguard; he knows he cannot give in to the mutual attraction they’re feeling. Thomas Monahan knows the Duskoff are trying to bring a demon into our world. In order to do this they need 4 powerful witches, one of each element, earth, water, fire and air. Mira is one of the most powerful air witches in the country and this is why the Duskoff want her. Jack tries numerous ways to tell and show Mira that she is a witch. Finally, he gets so frustrated with her non-belief that he kisses her deeply to unfurl the magick in her. Mira cannot deny the feeling the kiss has awakened and begins her journey of discovery of herself and her abilities. Knowing she has this magick within her, helps her regain some of her confidence and self-esteem that her cheating husband and the ensuing divorce took out of her. Jack’s apartment is breached by the Duskoff. Mira sees Jack get hurt and then someone grabs her, in her frightened state she draws on her magick and creates a tornado in Jack’s apartment, stunning the Duskoff and saving Jack and herself. Unfortunately, not having had much training, she causes injury to herself. Jack and some other witches from the Coven that arrived at Jack’s apartment, a little too late, take Mira to the headquarters of the Coven, headed by her cousin Thomas, in Chicago. There she heals and begins intensive training in her abilities.

I don’t want to get into the story much more, in case someone wants to read it for themselves. So here’s the summary from the back cover of the book: “Mira Hoskins doesn’t know she’s a natural-born witch who possesses the rare-and powerful- element of air. And she never expects to find herself tied to a mahogany bed frame, captive of a man who aches to fulfill her every desire and let loose the magick that dwells inside her….

Heat emanates from elemental fire witch Jack McAllister. The Coven, a governing authority of witches, has sent him to protect Mira from a band of warlocks who drain witches of power…and life. Long ago, he saw Mira’s parents murdered by this same dark magick. He’d like to quell his guilt and offer her everything she deserves. But she’s the long-lost cousin of his boss-making seduction off-limits.

With Jack’s strong guidance, Mira is luring forth her inner magick. But his sense of duty is quickly swelling to insatiable hunger. He was warned about the natural attraction between air and fire. Now he risks being consumed by the woman he shouldn’t want-but can’t stay away from…”

There's a couple of pages of the next book in the series, Witch Blood, at the end of my book. It sounds like it's picking up a short while after this one ended and it's very interesting. I'm definitely going to find this book too.
