No Way to Begin by Michelle Reid (HP 1478)
Back Cover:
Taking over the business was just the first step
Anton Lakitos wanted Nina Lovell, too. But she despised him.
She was convinced that it was the arrogant Greek property developer who'd ruined her father's health because of his desire to add Lovell's to his list of conquests.
When she discovered he was hell-bent on buying her, too, Nina faced the kind of dilemma every loyal daughter dreaded?should she watch Anton ruthlessly break her father's heart, or should she attempt to keep the company in the family. . . by marrying the man she hated?
Spoiler Warning: All my reviews contain spoilers to some degree
Favourite Scene: (the hero is drunk and thinks he's dreaming)
'No!' she choked again, 'Get your hands off me, you...'Tut, tut, tut,' he scolded, a long, incredibly sensitive finger coming out to tap her scorching cheek. 'This is my dream,' he announced. 'And I like my nymphs willing, not naughty. Well, maybe a little naughty,' he then amended on a husky little laugh.
Another Fav Scene:
'My Greek breeding demands total commitment from my wife, Nina. Remember that,' he'd advised. 'It will hold you in good stead if you ever consider cheating on me.'
'But I am not to demand the same of you, I suppose?' 'Before we met? No,' he'd said. 'The double standard raising its ugly head,' he had admitted drily. 'But since we met?' He'd pressed a final kiss to her lips before moving away from her. 'I give you leave to beat me to within an inch of my life if you ever catch me with another woman.'
Yet Another Fav Scene:
'As I have just confessed-to my eternal folly, I should imagine-I am your slave for life to do with as you will. I will be content to sit at your feet if that is all you will allow me to do.'
My Review:
The heroine's father has a heart attack and the heroine thinks it's the hero's fault. It's not: the hero is actually the man the father went to for help, because the heroine's fiance is blackmailing him. The hero is totally whipped by the heroine and has been stalking her like prey socially for months and months. He wants her badly and just by looking at him the heroine knows this and is scared of how he makes her feel. With the father's ill health, and the pressure of the heroine having a fiance the hero wants to get rid of, the hero blackmails her into marrying him. Once they are married, the passion between them bonds them and the heroine really grows as a confident woman. The heroine's father's health deteriorates though, and when he dies, the rules of their bargain will change... will their marriage end?
Whew to intense passion. I was pleased that the hero wasn't with anyone else from the moment he met the heroine, when he fell for her. He fell like a ton of bricks for her, and I loved how at the end he said the heroine must be the only one who didn't know that the hero was in love with her, everyone else in their circle did. Throughout the book he showed the depth of his feelings: when he got drunk that time at the start it was because of her, he kissed the finger he'd placed his ring on with such tenderness, and he won't let her leave him even when he knows he should. I loved the intensity of this book, passions were flying high and gosh, I had like fifteen favourite scenes, there were so many good parts. I love Michelle Reid books, so passionate, always faithful once the H/h meet.
I got a slight nasty taste in my mouth when the hero so casually dismissed his past lovers by saying "there were probably a hundred and one other women before you, but there won't be anyone else now". Yeesh. The hero made such a big deal about being possessive and being his heroine's only lover ever (she was a virgin) but it's ok for him to casually tell his innocent bride that she can't be jealous that he's bedded women nearing the triple digit mark? Not ok and just spoiled the hero's possessiveness for me. I actually would have rather had the hero have had only a dozen other lovers and have him in a steady relationship with the Louisa character, rather than have him imply to the heroine that he slept around so casually when she's not allowed to be so casual.
My Rating: 4/5 stars, huge passion, wow.

I just want to add... I wrote a long paragraph about that ick factor i mentioned.... but I just want to say that in the entire book, we are led to believe the hero is being faithful and is utterly enslaved by his love to the heroine.... this hero is one of the most devoted heroes you'll ever find. That comment that I reacted badly to was ONE LINE in the entire book. It's funny how one tiny line tossed in at the end of the book can just give you a bad feeling. I shouldn't judge the book on that one throw away line... but yeah, as I was reading the book I just had to write up that comment because it just bugged me!
There have been at least three books this year where I've seen specific teeny scenes/lines where I thought "yeesh, if this book just had skipped that tiny line I wouldn't have been plagued with doubts and a nasty taste in my mouth for the rest of the book" ... It's funny how I can just see that scene and target it and know that THAT is where things went wrong for me.... lol...
my enjoyment wasn't seriously affected by that one scene though. I loved the book. I'm just really anal about my ick factors.
ROFL ... well you're entitled to your feelings ....
and if it gave that icky feeling then that's honest .... I love honesty when it comes to books .... I try never to bash the hard work of an author ... but if there's something that bothers me, I try to be honest about it
that's like Rosilini's Revenge ... I think you reviewed it recently ..... I couldn't get past how the hero condoned his sister's affair with a married man ... the hero was supposed to be looking out for his sister ... he was definitely an alpha hero, very Italian, a fixer, a doer .....as soon as his sister became pregnant he should have been on a plane to confront the lovers wife and demand the divorce so his sister could marry the man she loved ....I just couldn't figure out how he could have continually blamed the heroine for something she was so completely innocent of ... and it was obvious too ... didn't fit with the type of character he was supposed to be ... major ick ...
ROFL ... see we all have are icky moments :)

Kat... I know what you
Kat... I know what you mean. I don't remember why I picked up Rossellini's Revenge... I do think I might have read a review about it either here or on Amazon.... was it here? Did you review it recently?
What I thought about all that.... well... the hero was an utter FOOL to believe a man sleeping with two women over a sobbing widow. Seriously. Weigh it up... cad sleeping with two women.... versus sobbing widow.... HMMMM!!!! I WONDER....
What balanced out that negative aspect for me and made the book reasonably tolerable/enjoyable... was that the hero was an emotional man and he cried... and *copying from my review* I liked how the hero and heroine ended up in bed together to comfort each other, and how he insisted on moving her into his bedroom because he wanted her there next to him, he didn't want to go searching for her at nights and "sneak" into her bed. I liked that they filled a hole in each other, they both needed the other in their life.
LOL... where's Margie when
LOL... where's Margie when you need her? I just reviewed 13 HPs today.... I know she usually likes to weigh in on the HPs... *grin*
Oh I hear you ....
I reviewed this one last year ... even though I hated the premise I still gave it a 4 star ....
here's my summary ...
This is my first book by Yvonne Lindsay, and it will not be my last. She has a very pleasing voice and has written a very compelling story. When fellow Quiet Canadian Christa blogged about this book back in June, I raised my concerns about the premise. And though I still have problems with the premise (which I will discuss under comments to this blog), I was able to become engrossed in the lives of Lana and Raffaele. What makes this book work, is the skill with which Ms. Lindsay gives us insight into Raffaele and manages to give him great depth. He’s a hero that is ruthless yet vulnerable, angry yet compassionate. Lana’s quiet courage and silent suffering is palpable. I class this one as one for the keeper shelf

I've only read two Yvonne
I've only read two Yvonne Lindsay books this year... here's the other one I read by her. I enjoyed it LOTS. I rated it higher than the Rossellini's Revenge book.
1758 The Boss's Christmas Seduction Yvonne Lindsay
Back Cover: Connor Knight, the youngest of the Knight brothers, wants the one thing Holly Christmas could never give him - a child of his own. Holly wants what Connor has sworn never to part with again - his heart. Sleeping with her boss after the staff Christmas party was not the best career move Holly ever made - but on the anniversary of the day she was abandoned as a toddler, who could blame her for seeking a sense of belonging in the arms of the man she's secretly loved for years?
For Connor, finding solace in his virgin secretary's arms is salve to his wounded heart after the shock discovery his ex-wife had terminated their child.
What is Holly to do when she discovers she's pregnant with the child he never dreamed he'd have? She has to find the strength to face her deepest fears and find the answers to her past while standing up to Connor's determination that nothing will go wrong this time. They must both learn to break down the barriers they've built around their hearts and learn to trust in love again.
Favourite Scene: Besides, as his PA, why wouldn’t she be called upon to stuff cushions in her boss’s trousers?“ I suppose this is what you meant in my job description, when you said ‘ and other duties as required from time to time.’ ”His eyes suddenly crinkled at the edges and he laughed— a rusty sound, as if he didn’t do it often enough. “Yeah, something like that. Although, I don’t think HR had this scenario in mind"
My Review: This was a charming story. I think some people might find it hard to identify with Holly's fears and her reason for not wanting to raise her baby, but that's a personal thing. The dynamic between the hero/heroine is great, they get along well, they are attracted to each other, they both have strong motivation for their actions, and their fears are something you can sympathize with. I liked how they came together out of a mutual need and sadness. I think they were good for each other. I really like the hero as a man, he had strong family values and he cared deeply for the heroine even before he admitted it (you could tell he was torn up by the distance they had to keep). Rating: 4/5 stars, a really great read I think.
Hi Janet
It's been a busy few days but I've been popping in and reading a review or two when I can. I love those fav scenes. Especially the one where he says she can beat him. lol.
I have this one written down. I hope it is a current one. I want to place an order tomorrow night. I tried to order the Kelly Hunter book but it is not available anymore. Darn! That just might be one I'll have to get by ebook.
Margie :)
Margie... this is HP
Margie... this is HP 1478... so you'll only find it a la UBS unfortunately.
Which Kelly Hunter book did you just try to buy and find unavailable? I just bought "Bedded for Diamonds" by KH on eharlequin a few days ago and it was still available. I'm looking forward to that one. ETA: actually nevermind, I get it must be "Wife for a Week" because i think there's only been the two KH books released in NA recently
About my reviews.... I've reviewed about ten SDs in the last few days, and today I reviewed 12 or so HPs. A lot of these books are July and August books. So if you're looking to buy July/August books I could tell ya what I found to be the creme de la creme.
Hey Janet
Yes, I was looking at the July/August books.
The KH book that I wanted was Wife for Hire. It is not even listed anymore. The Diamond one has a big SOLD OUT splashed across it or I would have got that one. But I'll check again before I finalize my order.
I'm trying to work through all the reviews now to catch up. I have been really lazy myself about getting blogs posted. I usually procrastinate but this is the longest I've waited to post something. I really really have to do it this weekend. I have 15 books to do.
Margie :)
Oh crap Margie. That's
Oh crap Margie. That's bad timing. They don't put out more copies of the books unless they do a special release do they? I hope you can grab a copy somewhere.
Now hmmm... I ordered Bedded for Diamonds over the weekend and it just yesterday went to "sold out"? I hope they have enough copies to give ME the one I ordered, LOL!
About your reviews.... 15 you say? Ooh. I'll keep an eye out for 'em. :)
