#11 Dark Need by Lynn Viehl, Signet Eclipse 2006

A Darkyn Novel, Book 3 - Wow again - Lucan was the Darken King Richard’s favorite Assassin.  He came to America and setup shop in Florida.

Michael Ciprien is the Darkyn Ruler in America. They have been enemies since the days of the Crusades.  Richard pitted them against each other in jousts and tourneys and Michael always came out ahead.

There are murders being committed in Miami that lead homicide detective Samantha Brown and her partner Harry Quinn directly to the new goth club Infusion which is owned by Lucan. Lucan tries to control Samantha but she is not made powerless by his Darkyn persuasive powers. He is drawn to her not only because of her resistance of him, but she looks like his only love, who died centuries ago. Since Sam was shot in the line of duty, she has a gift for being able to see the events of a murder victim’s last minutes or hours if she gets to the victim close to when they died.  By sticking her scarred hand into their blood that time replays itself to her.  Nobody but Harry knows of this talent, and it is drawing her to Lucan.

Faryl is part of Michael’s jardin.  He is a changeling and is insane with the changes being wrought in him.  He leaves his home in New Orleans to go to Lucan in Florida so that Lucan can put him out of his misery.  This is a slap against Michael’s authority and Michael and Alex and their people go to Florida to confront Faryl, putting them easily within Lucan’s grasp.

Add John Keller, Alex’s no-longer-a-priest brother and the Brethren along with the High King Richard into the mix and you have a terrific story.

Rating Excellent

It was good wasn't it, Jeannie?

Lucan is soooo bad!  Do you have book 4, Night Lost? I really liked it - and I think it was the best of the bunch.  But they are all good it is hard to decide.  Like the BDB.  Dark Lover is my fav cuz of Wrath <sigh> but Z's and Butch's story were the best.  I'd like to start on Evermore but I have lots to do this weekend so may put it off.  If I start it I won't want to put it down and I won't get anything done!

Those eyes

I really like the covers on these books also.  They are gorgeous men but not snotty and arrogant looking. I am enjoying this series.  I am glad you liked it too ElleJay

Hi

This series sounds really good.  Thanks.  I've added them to The List (heck, the cover of this one alone was enough to make me want to give them a try Wink)

Enjoy Karen

I have delved into vamps since the last challenge and have been having fun. This is a good series. I really love the Lara Adrian ones even more.
