#160 My Montana Home by Ellen James (Super #1014)

Cassie's landlady dies and her grandson comes to settle the estate and sell the house, so Cassie and her son Zak have to move out. Cassie is worried about her son who's become reclusive since her divorce and his father's failure to keep his promises. Her father wants her to move home but she's not sure it would be a good thing for Zak and when she learns her landlady left the guest house to Zak she's in love with Andrew but he has commitment problems, so she's worried about letting Zak come to depend on him. Then her father decides to sue for custody of Zak. Will her problems get worse or can she sort out a proper future for herself and her son?
The interference totally spoiled my enjoyment of this book. When Cassie and Gwen were playing crazy golf I was praying that Cassie would strangle Gwen with the golf club. It did have the dubious merit of making me appreciate my family – because they don't interfere! It might have got a very good if Gwen hadn't been in it, but every time I thought she was gone and I could start appreciating the story, they made another reference to her phone calls or she came back with more unwanted advice. Pity there wasn't a MIRA Suspense follow up that killed her off

Sadhbh .... confused ...

who's Gwen?  ... and why would Cassie's father sue for custody of Zak?

now is Gwen, Casssie's mother? ... is it her parents that are interferring?    ...... they must be incredibly powerful to be certain to win a custody suit against the mother of a child .... so very rare

interesting review .... maybe you and FF can plot out Gwen's demise ..... and we'll all stand by and cheer  Wink

Gwen is not her mother, nor her mother-in-law

she's her son's paediatrician, friendly with Cassie's sister and
constantly ringing up Cassie's sisters to gossip about what Cassie is
up to.

Her father wants her to move back home and when she does,
briefly, but moves back again, he brings a custody suit against her
because he wants "a second chance" with her son, after striking out
with his own son Undecided

He "owns" the town and nobody dares contradict him except his own daughter

FF is even bloodthirstier than I am, but I'm honest about it SmileInnocent
