Allie is a cop who specialises in cold cases but her father the police chief doesn't want her to reopen the Barker case. Allie doesn't know it's because her father is having an affair with Barker's widow. Clay is still the main suspect even without proof, and the growing attraction between Clay and Allie doesn't help, especially after Clay gets arrested. Clay's stepsister Madeline is determined to uncover the truth, but Clay is equally determined to protect her and keep her in the dark. When Allie receives photos of Reverend Barker with young girls in compromising positions, she destroys those with Grace in them, but keeps the others and uses them to get the Vincellis to back off and drop the charges against Clay.
Fascinating second episode in this trilogy where we know whodunnit but understand the need for secrecy. I loved the way Clay found a woman for him and love after all his efforts to protect the family and keep them together. I loved that Allie realised how hard it was for him and how much more he needed her because of that. The hook at the end made me really glad I had #3 all ready and waiting.

I really...
need to try this series as I've heard such good things about it.

I was hooked after I read
I was hooked after I read the first book in this series and this series was an accidental find and I'm glad that I found this series.

Hi Debbie, Hi Tiffany
Debbie - I think you'll really enjoy this, there was a lot of food for thought
Tiffany
- I picked up the first in the bargain bookstore part of the site, then
once I had the first one, I absolutely had to get the other two, and
they just arrived a couple of weeks ago
they were one of the reasons I decided March would be my miniseries/continuity month
Pamela Britton's Nascar books were one of the other reasons, I have three in a row waiting for me

RE: DEAD GIVEAWAY by Brenda Novak
Sadhbh ~~ wow-- sounds smashing! Would it be okay as a stand alone or would it be necessary to read the mini-series?

I'm sold!
Book 3 is next on the list!
Didn't you just love how Clay changed towards the end when he realized that he was scared now that he had something to lose? For so many years he cut himself off from others, so he wouldn't be hurt and he couldn't hurt them, if the worst ever happened.

Hi Marty - I think you need to read all three
to really understand the situation (but maybe I'm saying that because I DID read all three)
The
first book was Dead Silence and it covered Grace coming back to town
because she'd inherited a house, and how nobody wanted her back and her
problems with her fiancé in the city because of her inability to commit
or get past what happened to her
I think you'd really enjoy all three in the right order
ElleJay - Sunday evening and no later ! - okay?
