Madeline has never believed Clay was responsible for her father's death/disappearance but she needs closure. Her mother committed suicide when she was ten and due to her father, she was the one to discover the body, so she needs to know what happened to her father. They've found her father's car without a body, so she hires a PI from California because he'll be willing to investigate. Then a suitcase is found in the car's trunk with a dildo and three pairs of little girl's panties, one of which belonged to Grace. Was her father counselling a paedophile who killed him? Then the PI starts asking awkward questions which make everyone nervous and Madeline regrets having hired him, but he warns her she might not like the answers he gets. She finally realises her stepfamily were involved but when she goes to confront them, she gets kidnapped by her father's partner in crime. Will Clay and Hunter manage to rescue her in time?
Intense powerful trilogy which highlights the dangers of asking questions when you might not like the answers, the problems inherent in toppling a popular man from his pedestal. It made me wonder whether a man seeks a powerful position in order to abuse it, or whether the position of power and authority caused an otherwise "innocent" man to become corrupt and take advantage of his position. We may never know. I found fascinating that none of the "normal" adults found anything worrying about the children's behaviour or that of the Reverend and his cohort. I loved the way Madeline realised how much Clay had tried to protect her and that when she thought about the situation she didn't hold it against him.

I've got this trilogy on my Amazon.com wish list after reading MJ's review of one. Having never read anything by Brenda Novak, this sounds like a great series to start with. Right up my alley!
And so climbs the TBR pile!

I have this trilogy. I read the second one first and loved it. I wish I had discovered it earlier though because now I feel like I need to read 2 books, the first and the third, in one sitting and I am too far behind on other reads now to do that.

Merri - your reading schedule sounds painful
and as if it's putting negative stress on you. I think you should
throw your "schedule" out the window. You'll read the books when you
read them, unless life sets you back a little. Just because you have
subscriptions does not mean you have to have them read before the next
month's books arrive. If you want to take the time to read Dead Silence
and Dead Right, take the time! Glenn might thank you for it if it means
you recommend books he might otherwise have passed by

I finished Sadhbh!
I finished Dead Right on Sunday - excellent! And so fast paced I barely put it down (and I needed to do housework too!)
I finished my course so I can back to reading and blogging again! Although I do have company arriving next weekend so I must clean up a bit first.
Bye for now,

LOL... Like always I wished that I had read...
... all the books together, but I couldn't wait for the next one out. But with Brenda's books, you can, even so, read them separately.
Merri, like Sadhbh said, if you're not having fun reading then something needs to change.
Sadhbh, regarding your question about the chicken-and-egg and men-and-power, personally I think the Reverend was just a no good SOB that worked to get into the position he was in so that he could take advantage. He started out all wrong and just got worse from there.
