last week, i read "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen. And I loved it, but I found it a bit contrived. Although the tension and the romance were some of the best I have ever read, there were times when it seemed too easy and times when it felt like Ms. Austen was going off on a tangent.
I actually laughed out loud when Mr. Tobias wrote that readers today have less patience with contrived situations. Readers expect more than an easy way out. And readers today don't have the patience or the time to have a writer go off on a tangent that doesn't serve to fuel the tension in the plot.
I have read several books on writing and I have to say that I am sometimes turned off on how preachy they can be. Ron Tobias doesn't pretend to know all about what will work for everyone. He just gives a background and an explanation on plot and building plot.
The way this book is organized makes it very easy to read.
There are a lot of wonderful quotes by various writers in this book.
I enjoyed it immensely!
