#206 Secrets of a Summer Night - Lisa Kleypas (Avon)

Annabelle Peyton is one of four wallflowers who are used to sitting together at balls while the prettier/richer/more acceptable ladies dance and flirt and become engaged. Annabelle is getting desperate because she has the right lineage but no money and her mother's "protector" has made it obvious he wants to upgrade to a newer model. So the four girls come up with a scheme, they will help each other to find husbands and as Annabelle's case is the most urgent, she'll go first. Annabelle has caught Simon Hunt's eye, but he's the son of a butcher and although he's incredibly rich, he's not a "suitable" husband, even if he intended to offer marriage which is not the case. But he's always there, always asking her to dance and at a country gathering he even helps her when she gets bitten by an adder. Will Annabelle be able to go through with her scheme to ensnare Lord Kendall?
This was an interesting glimpse into the lives of the wallflowers and the scheming involved in catching an eligible husband. Of course there are the obvious signs that the four will end up in love matches, rather than suitable arrangements. Intriguing developments and nice conclusion.
