Sebastian, Lord St Vincent is at home, recovering from his altercation with Marcus, when Evie Jenner insists on seeing him. She's desperate to escape her mother's family and so she proposes marriage, so that she'll be safe and he'll be rich. She insists that once the marriage is consummated their conjugal obligations will have been met. Sebastian agrees because once is enough, but then realises that Evie is different and one night will never be enough. When he proposes more, Evie refuses, before proposing a bargain – if he can remain celibate for three months, they can them resume conjugal relations for good. He's kept busy putting her father's club back on its feet after the previous factotum embezzled a lot of money. Evie's half brother seems intent on murdering her? Will she survive his attempts?
My favourite of the four books, I loved how Evie became comfortable with him on their trips to and from Scotland and how she didn't let herself be browbeaten. Interesting how Sebastian found a purpose in life in her father's club and how he changed his mind about her nursing skills.
