Jennifer is having a meeting with her students when a handyman with a grudge takes them hostage. She tries to defuse the situation and makes contact with Beck Winters, the SWAT negotiator, but the SWAT sniper makes a judgement call and the man gets killed so she's unhappy with Beck because she'd trusted him. Beck is attracted to Jennifer but understands the problem, he's not any happier with the sniper than she is but team loyalty means he can't talk about it.
Jennifer also has problems with their relationship because of her father, will she be able to let the past go and trust Beck to be different?
This series has been trying to attract my attention for two years and given that we're nearly at the end of my own personal mini-series challenge, I thought I'd better get to it before the end of March. Very enjoyable, logical emotional conflict. I like single author mini-series and the first book set things up well, giving us an overview of the team, setting things up just enough
