#241 The Soldier's Homecoming – Donna Alward (HR #4014)

Jonas and Shannyn had an affair six years ago, just before he left to be a sniper in the Canadian army. Now he's back after a traumatic mission that killed his best friend and he discovers that he has a daughter Emma he never knew about. Shannyn hadn't told him because she didn't think they had a future and she wanted to protect Emma from an absentee father. Now he's training the future snipers because of the injury that prevents him participating in active missions. Can Shannyn and Emma trust him to be there? Is he ready to make a commitment?
There were a lot of issues, well-dealt with, Shannyn's guilt over keeping secrets, Jonas' refusal to let her in or to deal with his PTSS, their communication difficulties, caused partly by the fact that they had no communication habit. Powerful and intense scenes with Emma when he had one of his flashbacks. I loved the way he realised that Shannyn's protective instincts were warranted, and how he reacted at the end when he realised how Shannyn had misunderstood his intentions, but that he hadn't given her any reason to do otherwise.
