Kit runs the diner on the ground floor of the Sinclair building where her parents died, and tries to keep her young brother on track, but there are strange noises in the building which is being reconstructed and one night an old lady, one of her customers is mugged and Kit scares off the muggers and brings her to hospital, where a mysterious stranger thanks her on the old lady's behalf and leaves the old lady's insurance details on her bed. Dr Damon Sinclair nearly died in a fire, a botched attempt to steal his million-dollar medical breakthroughs, and he and his wife were badly burned, but his miracle cures didn't work on his wife and she committed suicide. He spends all of his time trying to correct the formula that didn't work for his wife and fighting off ongoing attempts to steal his formulae. Who is the mysterious murderer behind the attempts to steal his medical breakthroughs?
I loved Damon and his worries and his attempts to protect Kit, I loved the role technology played in the story and found the suspense really nailbiting at times (and everybody knows how badly I cope with suspense) This would make a great film. I liked the way Kit's brother turned around at the end and how the baddies didn't gain anything. I'm aware I'm not doing the book justice but the monsters were particularly tiring this weekend and my brain is mush.

This sounds like a really good book. But no fair! It's M&B. Can we buy it here in the US?

Yes I am a readalholic and I don't want the 12 step program!!!
I actually just found this book myself...
a short while ago... and I'd been looking for it for quite some time. But it was worth it... as, of course, all of Julie's books are.

I'm getting caught up with your suggestion about looking for anthologies on my reading frustration/withdrawal blog. I'm looking for suggestions now for a great, quick read. Thanks!
