I read Kristan HIggins book, Fools Rush In, and was looking forward to this one. She didn't disappoint! Told in the first person, Maggie is an identical twin. Only her twin is the one with the perfect husband and the perfect baby and Maggie is filling her lonely days with lots of volunteer work and running the diner that she inherited from her grandfather. A handsome new Irish guy comes to town and Maggie falls hard with the first "Lass" that passes his lips. She tells everyone that she has met her "soul mate" and can't wait for Sunday when she will see him again at church as he had cheerfully suggested. Maggie has the worst luck when it comes to boyfriends and somehow manages to make herself a public joke way too frequently. Surely her luck has turned now.
I really loved Maggie. Higgins really nailed Maggie's anguish over her crush on an unavailable man. And that man was really yummy and totally believable as the source of a serious crush.. I was falling for him myself! I found myself nodding and sympathizing with Maggie as she expressed feelings and thoughts that I myself had once experienced in a "he-doesn't-like-me-the-way-I-like-him" situation. It was nice to see a perfectly wonderful girl who just had not had the right chance to find her own love. She is pretty, likeable (though she talks too much), caring for others and willing to work hard and help out everyone. I laughed and I sobbed.
Really great story that I highly reccommend. There is sex between unmarried individuals, but everything but a kiss or two is behind closed doors, which I think qualifies this as a gentle romance. In fact, except for that fact, I would have said it was an inspirational romance.

RE: CATCH OF THE DAY by Kristan Higgans
I read a review of this by another reader yesterday ~~ and I must say that both of you make this sound very good! It's certainly the type of tale that's up me alley, and, of course of you girls know by now, I'm a sucker for good Irish blokes and chits in stories!

Catch of the Day
I agree that is was a perfectly good decision to leave their "between the sheets" encounters behind close doors, I just thought if the author included them, it may have given a deeper understanding of Malone.
And funny we both read this book this week.
