30. Anthology ~ Summer Dreams ~ Harlequin NEXT (Jul07)

Bought, initially, to follow Stevi Mittman’s Teddi Bayer, this book was a wonderful find.  Both Kate Austin’s and Jennifer Greene’s stories have got me on the hunt for more of both their work.  This is why I love anthologies so much… not only did I enjoy an author that I was sure of, I found two more.  And I’m finding that the stories in the NEXT line are great stories of women who have a little more life experience ~ and that is another treat.  So if you’ve not tried anything by any of these authors, or from the NEXT imprint ~ live a little!

 SYNOPSIS:

Stevi Mittman’s Who’s That in the Itsy-Bitsy, Anyway? is another outstanding Teddi Bayer mystery.  This time, Teddi’s in the Hamptons to decorate the beach house belonging to a Mafia don.  During the demolition of an outside wall, Teddi come across not only a gun, but a photograph dating back to the 50’s featuring a frightening familiar woman… in a two piece bathing suit.  So just what is a picture of her much younger mother doing there anyway?
Kate Austin’s Summertime Blues follows Ardella Simpson working at her dream job for the summer before starting college; she’s one of the new summer volunteers at the aquarium.  Only she’s starting twenty years later than she had originally planned and her boss, Greg Angus, is way too attractive for her peace of mind!

Jennifer Greene’s Kokomo is an entirely unexpected adventure for very successful attorney Jane Whitcomb.  Fast on the way to a breakdown and with the Beach Boys’ hit Kokomo running through her head, she decides that a tropical vacation would be just the thing.  The only problem is, her assistant assumes that the Kokomo that her boss wants to go to, is in Indiana.  And so begins the journey of a lifetime!

 MY NOTES:

I expected that Stevi Mittman’s story would be as wonderful as it was… but I was extremely pleased that both Kate Austin’s and Jennifer Greene’s stories were just as terrific.  Each and every one would be a keeper in their own right… but together?  What an amazing, enjoyable and heartwarming collection of summertime stories.  Talk about excellent reading on a cold, snowy and windy winter day!
