#30 Hometown Wedding - Pamela Macaluso (SD #897)

Callie and Rorke were young lovers but her father interfered and she went
away to protect Rorke while he thought she'd sold them out. Now she's
bridesmaid and he's best man at friends' wedding, can they call a
truce? How will they react when they discover the secrets and the
truth?

Interference is one of my pet hates, but specifically here. They wasted ten years
because of pride and interference. Life is too short and ten extra
years of true love is a priceless gift which should not have been
wasted. We all read Harlequin for the HEA but when the EA is cut
short, how much H is lost? Secondly I'm not convinced all the
miscommunication and lack of trust spells a good basis for a
believable HEA and marriage. Some might say they've already had their
worse, but reactions come from thought habits and if they encounter
too many problems they'll have more tendency to mistrust and
miscommunicate, even more so if they have children, as children are
great but overwhelming and often leave couples very little time to
talk. How are you supposed to solve communication problems when you
never have the time/opportunity to talk things out?

I read...

this years ago.  This was my least favorite of the three in the series.  I'll be interested to hear what you think of the other two if you read those....

What…

did the father do?

He threatened to ruin

Rorke's life and Rorke's father's life if she didn't leave him
alone, so she went off to college and didn't speak to her father for
ten years, thinking that Rorke would follow her

and he told Rorke she'd sold him out for her college tuition, so that Rorke would be too proud to follow her
