Cal is British intelligence working undercover to try and bring down his criminal cousin, the same one the four ex-cons are trying to stop. Gina is annoyed with the way he distracts her from her rehab mission and can't decide whether to trust him. Will Cal succeed in renewing her faith in herself and her trust in her partners?
Thinking a lot about criminals reading this, specifically Cal's dilemma between family loyalty and wanting to stop his cousin using WMD, and maybe I'm just getting cynical with age but I think this push to "understand" criminals in the hope of preventing future similar criminals is just rubbish. Amoral people have always existed. People with a sense of morality don't understand them, but then I think it could be argued that amoral people don't understand morality either. The difference is the amoral people don't care about other people, all they care about are their own interests. Luckily for mankind they seem to be in a minority but I'm not sure they can be "cured", and even if they could be, they wouldn't see the point in such a cure. What do you think?

Moral vs amoral: frustrating but interesting question.
I pretty much agree with that, Sadhbh. Amoral people wouldn't want to be fixed even if we could and moral people will never really understand their viewpoint. Frustrating a lot of the time. It is when, if ever, we can catch someone who is on the fence between these two views that if anything can be done then is the time. My guess is it would usually be when someone is very young (or some life changing event happens). Another book to be added to my TBB list. At this rate I will never get to read it down. Great review though.

Thanks Blake, it annoys me that we spend so much money
on looking after criminals and let the victims fend for themselves. I can understand being lenient with people who steal because they're starving to death, but a lot of criminals might not be criminals if they understood they wouldn't be getting a cushy jail cell and heat and TV - I understand the need for human rights, but the right not to be stolen from or murdered so that a drug addict can get his next fix is also one of my human rights - I mean you don't see me out killing people or mugging grannies just to be able to afford my books, I'm stupid enough to actually work for the money and budget to afford them
