#38: Taming Rafe; Susan May Warren, Tyndale, Dec. 2007

Score: 4

Noble Legacy Series #2

I liked this second book in the series much better than the first.  Katherine is a socialite who is trying so very hard to save the foundation her mom established to help Mercy Doctors in Mexico.  But the foundation is suddenly in deep financial trouble and Katherine is fighting her gradfather to keep funding for the programs another quarter.  Her big fundraising event is shattered (literally!) by Rafe.  Now she wants HIM to make things right and help her save her foundation.

Rafe is a bullrider who is helpless to save his best friend and bull rider clown, Manuel, who is killed by the bull Rafe is riding.  Rafe is also badely injured and goes home to the Noble ranch to lick his wounds.

Great characterizations and a wonderful secondary story about Lolly and John.  I really loved both of those secondary characters... and Ms. Warren also does a very neat thing by entertwining a historical western romance story that several of the characters are reading into the plot. Very cleverly done.
