Dylan goes through women at the rate of 1 per month. Katie should know; she is his florist and she has his 4 bouquet pattern down to a science. One is new relationship, two first night together; three is "sorry I forgot" and four is "it's been fun but..". Katie uses the hidden language of flowers to add to the arrangements message.
Dylan's sister also has his number and challenges Dylan to find one "decent" girl. On a whim, Dylan asks Katie out and,flabergasted when she turns him down, he steps up to the challenge of making her change her mind.
I really liked the emotional depth of this romance; it made me cry. Katie is divorced and afraid to get her heart broken again. Dylan is a hero with layers. Is he a playboy or a family man who is hiding a breaking heart? I loved one particular line as Dylan learns more about himself and love and life: "The message was that everything changed,so grab the gifts you were offered when you were offered them; to treasure the time you were given with those gifts,because time was short. He realized he didn't want to waste a minute." (p. 167)
